No major complaints. Needs to be learned like any camera but is full of great features built in. The accessories are all good entry level pieces but might need replacing in the future.

I wanted a camcorder to record sporting events indoors at 4K 60fps. I had been using a DSLR on a gimbal and wanted to upgrade to a real video camera for the form factor and simplicity. I have only used this for one basketball game at this point. The basketball court was fairly well lit for a gym. I would rank the low light performance as not great compared to a Sony A7RIII, Sony A9, Sony FDR-X300, and BMPCC4K. Each of these cameras has been used at this same gym in the same lighting conditions. The Sony PXW-Z190 had the most noise by far. I have not seen this much noise in many years. I love the camcorder on a monopod and the physical layout and features of this camera, however the performance is not great for what I need. Compared to these other cameras I use this noise was much more noticeable. Neat Video took care of it pretty well, but not perfectly. I am really surprised by how noisy the footage is for any indoor shots, even reasonable well-lit rooms. I also experienced several glitches using the eyepiece viewfinder. Twice I had black line flickering that lasted several seconds, and once I had the screen turn white for a few seconds while I was recording. I am in wait and see mode. I love the form factor, but the quality is not what I was hoping for. The footage from this Sony PXW-Z190 looks crappy to average compared to the beautiful shots from the same gym taken the same night with the BMPCC4K. With a lot more post production work I was able to make it look decent.

The Sony PXW-Z190 is an excellent camera for event coverage, news gathering, nature footage, interviews, and professional video work. I use the camera for interviews, convention, stage, event coverage, YouTube content creation, and trade show coverage. Sony's new 3CMOS 1/3-inch chips are VERY good in lower light conditions than any other 1/3-inch sensor camera I've seen in the past. The 25x optical aoom Sony Lens G on this camera is spectacular. It takes two SDXC memory cards (have used up to 512GB in size with no issues) and record up to 4K UHD (3840x2160p) 60fps in the XAVC-L format as well as DVCAM. In December 2018, the optional MPEG-2 (4:2:2) license will be available for purchase along with a more advanced networking package, It also record 1080p 4:2:2 out of the box in the XAVC format. Includes 4-channel audio. 2 phantom powered XLR audio jacks, 3G-SDI, WiFi, ethernet LAN cable connectivity, and a host of other options. This camera has improved my workflow and quality and gives me the professional look, feel, and workflow I've always wanted. My convention and event coverage as well as YouTube content creation has improved dramatically even since I've started using this camcorder. Highly recommended!!

I own a small production Company with one full time employee and myself. This is my 19th $3k+ "professional" video camera purchase. Many of my cameras have been $5K to $8.5K. I have rented many more cameras than this. This has got to be the worst video camera release from Sony EVER. Much of this camera's function does not work at all. Not a single auto focus feature works. Switching from "manual" to "auto makes absolutely no difference. The "variable ND filter" function only works once you have already selected to use the ND filter in manual mode. In other words, it IS NOT a 0-infinity feature. The "direct menu" feature does not work in any usable manner in either "Full Auto" or "Manual" modes. Only a single codec is available in 4K. Once you use the camera's on-board black balance feature you cannot reverse the effect. The owners's manual that is supplied on a CD is replete with inaccuracies and "holes". The assign buttons don't work. Many of the functions within the menu are greyed out as if the will be available at some later date with some firmware update. Did ADORAMA sell me some grey market, pre-release JUNK?! I paid 3 figures for next day air to get this thing for a VERY important shoot. Now I can't even get a hold of anyone due to ANOTHER holiday that I don't understand. I had so much hope for this camera, and for a professional relationship with a new (to me) New York camera super store.

Great services and price
By ERNEST F.
The price of my camera along with other accessories was great. My camera was delivered earlier than expected. The customer service was great. I will continue to do business with these guys.
PXW-Z190 - 4K Handheld Camcorder with all-new 1/3-type 3CMOS with 4K 50p/60p (59.94fps) recording capability, 25x zoom lens and advanced Face Detection AF.
4K 50p/60p with a stunning 25x zoom lens
This superb all-rounder is the de facto choice for a wide range of 4K and HD single camera shoots with an all-new 1/3-type 3CMOS sensor. A powerful 25x zoom lens with three independent lens rings delivers pin-sharp 4K imaging for almost any professional shooting scenario. Advanced Face Detection AF and Sony's unique Electronic Variable ND filter making shooting great content stress-free.
Advanced workflow features
Instant HDR means you can deliver stunning imagery quickly without need for additional colour grading. Dual MI Shoe allows simultaneous use of wireless audio and video lighting, while advanced network performance support is easily enabled when required. (Requires firmware 2.0 or higher and optional paid upgrade.)
A wealth of formats and features for professionals
Sony's familiar control layout and robust build quality make this a camera you can rely upon. It supports a wide range of formats including XAVC-Long, DVCAM, MPEG HD422/ MPEG HD (Requires firmware 2.0 or higher and optional paid upgrade.) and Proxy 1080i. Dual SD slots, 3G-SDI output and Remote Terminal ensure it can support all workflow scenarios.
4K 1/3-type 3CMOS Sensor
The PXW-Z190 is the world's first professional camcorder with a 4K (QFHD) 1/3-inch type sensor. Red, blue, and green light are independently captured by separate image sensors within the Exmor RTM system in 3840 x 2160 resolution at up to 60fps. Even if you're delivering in HD, 4:2:2 10bit recordings will capture detail and image texture that HD sensors simply cannot see.
25x professional zoom lens with three independent rings and large focal length
The PXW-Z190 is equipped with a 25x professional zoom lens able to zoom from 28.8mm to 720mm (35mm equivalent). The 1/3-inch type lens has three independent control rings, which allows manual control of focus, zoom and iris, making for better and faster adjustment.
The image can be enlarged without any picture degradation in an HD mode and a 50x zoom equivalent image is captured with sensor cropping extender.
Advanced Face Detection AF
The PXW-Z190 features newly developed Face detection AF. You can choose between Face Priority AF and Face Only AF. Simply keep the person in frame and however you move to obtain a better angle, you can be confident the PXW-Z190 will keep your subject in pin-sharp focus.
Built-in electronic Variable ND Filters
Sony's ground-breaking integration of electronic variable ND Filters into the body of a camcorder enables fast, agile shooting. Moving from shadowy interiors to bright sun-lit exteriors is no problem with the PXW-Z190. Unlike conventional optical ND filters, the electronic ND filter on the PXW-Z190 can be controlled from 1/4ND to 1/128ND linearly while ND Filters can be set to fully auto. You can even manually adjust Depth of Field using the iris lens ring, while relying on the PXW-Z190 to maintain constant exposure without changing gain nor shutter speed.
Instant HDR workflow
Shoot, edit and view HDR content in HLG without the need for additional colour grading. Premium content services are switching to HDR and the PXW-Z190 is ready with Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording, for easy file-based workflows, whilst achieving the image quality of HDR. This simple workflow enables the shooting, editing and viewing of HDR content in HLG, without devoting a lot of time to post-production work and additional colour grading.
Dual Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe
MI Shoe provides signal connections and coordinated on/off switching to compatible Sony accessories. Connectors at front and back of camcorder maximize operational flexibility. For example, you can connect and control Sony Wireless Microphone systems such as the UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 and the HVL-LBPC light at the same time. Cable-less connection eliminates the risk of accidental disconnection.
Dual XLR and 4 Channel Audio
The PXW-Z190 offers four channel audio recording with two independent volume dials enabling precision control of external audio inputs, including an MI-shoe attached microphone.
Dual SD media slots
The camcorder is equipped with two SD memory card slots, which can record in either Simul or Relay or Back up mode. Simul mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory cards, ideal for archival purposes. Relay mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first is full to extend recording times. In Back up mode, users can set up the two Start/Stop buttons on the PXW-Z190, one on the grip and one on the camcorder body, to independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in Simul mode.
Network workflow flexibility
PXW-Z190 comes with 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi as standard - simply turn on and log onto your preferred network. Install the free 'Content Browser Mobile' app on your smartphone to operate the camera remotely controlling Iris, Zoom, Focus WB and other functions from the palm of your hand. One-touch authentication is also possible with smartphones that offer NFC connectivity.
The Z190 is also easily upgraded to offer all the below features with optional CBKZ-SLNW1.
High quality QoS Streaming to Network RX station (optional)
XDCAM air secure wireless workflow
MPEG TS UDP streaming to peripheral common receiver
FTP Transfer of proxy clip and high resolution clip to remote servers
Wired LAN streaming and file transfer
Trimming proxy and high resolution clip prior to sharing
Proven Recording Formats
The PXW-Z190 offers production flexibility with support for a variety of production formats.
XAVC Long GOP recording at QFHD and Full-HD
XAVC technology is based on the H.264 standard, which provides an exceptionally robust and efficient compression technology. XAVC Long GOP applies compression across multiple frames - reducing file sizes, which can make for fast ingest and editing as well as providing budget savings on recording media. In HD shooting, the XAVC codec adopts 10-bit sampling for high definition recording with rich tonal expression.
Broadcast-standard MPEG HD422 and MPEG HD
High-quality MPEG HD422 50 Mbps is fully compliant with the latest EBU recommendations for long-form broadcast production and is widely accepted in broadcasting stations and production houses. This recording capability makes PXW-Z190 ideal for a wide range of different applications, including newsgathering and documentary production.
Note: Requires version 2.0 firmware and paid CBKZ-SLMP upgrade license.
DVCAM at 25 Mbps in MXF file format
Many broadcasters and production houses still utilise the proven DVCAM format and PXW-Z190 provides support at the flick of a switch.
