Good and sharp !!!

I bought this lens for a trip to Utah I hope to make soon. I took it to a local State Park to try it out and it looks very sharp and handles well, looking forward to trying some landscapes soon.

Exactly what tech recommended.

Purchased the wide angle lens for my wife and it is exactly what she needs for scenic shots. Tech was very professional and assisted greatly in selection.

Great lens with "wide" avialable use

Works as good as a Canon equivalent but at half the price.

Love at first sight

Great lens for outdoor video: No creep, tight, damped and rubberized focus/zoom rings (perfect for follow-focus) and silent glass movement. Focusing from minimum to infinity will not deform or zoom the image. The focus range is the perfect match for those using EF "standard zoom" range (24-70/28-135/28-105), it will cover the wide end that you miss due to APS-C crop factor. Be aware of: High CAs and purple fringing on maximum aperture. The sweet spot is f8, where you'll get the best sharpness and minimum aberration. The provided lens hood will cast a shadow on the pop-up flash (you can take it off naturally or use an external, but be aware of the minimum wide coverage). The lens is heavy and it's center of gravity is very forward, near the focus ring. When hanging on your neck, the camera will tend to face down instead of staying horizontally aligned. Cheap tripods will struggle to hold this thing straight. Sometimes the MF/AF switch will get a little cranky when AF focus to infinity and you want to switch to MF. Despite all that, I still highly recommend this glass. The price/performance ratio is unbeatable.

My AlleyCat

I use my 12-24 almost entirely for shots of graffiti in alleys. Most alleys are fairly narrow and allow me to get the whole graf piece with ease. I have read that it doesnt have a "super sharp" glass, For my use, I dont need the sharpest lens. It works great and is sharp enough. I carry it in a backpack and has worked every single time no matter how many times I have bumped and banged it. Reliable, sharp enough and solid.

Very Pleasantly Surprised

I bought this lens for use with my canon 7D after reading many reviews and was deciding between this, the canon 10-22 f3.5-4.5 and the tokina 11-16 f2.8. The tokina 12-24mm f4 at-x pro II was the least expensive of the three, but at the same time I felt it best suited my needs. The constant f4 allows for adequate lighting inside buildings, and is great for those large family gatherings. But my favorite use for this lens is landscape/scenery. I was truly blown away by the IQ and color rendition. My photos were crisp, clear, and such color! I was not expecting this with a third party lens. As a matter of fact, I like this lens so much that I went to tokina's site to see what else they offer. The other plus to this lens is that it is truly built like a tank and has great AF. Remember, this lens is only for crop sensor cameras. It is a great combination on my 7D. I have attached a photo I took a day ago, as jpeg, not raw image.

Awesome Lens

I use this lens for group shots, indoors when need yo get everything in the image and on the sidelines at football games. This lens is built like a tank and is very sharp. I have several Canon L lenses and this Tokina is on par with all of them. Focus is quick and accurate. The included hood locks in tight. This is my first Tokina and I am very impressed!

Tokina 12-24mm f/4 PRO DXII

I really like this lens. I have had it about a year now. It has given me some great pictures. I looked at a few other wide angle lenses such as the Canons,Sigmas, and Tamrons. You couldn't go wrong with any of them. I wanted the Tokina 11-16 but the 12-24 was more in my budget at the time. I have read reviews that the 11-16 is better than the 12-24. My lens gets me great pictures. I still might get the 11-16 or Sigmas 10-22. I have seen times I wished I had a little more width. All in all you wont be disappointed in this lens.

Wonderful lens

Wonderful lens. MF/AF ring takes a little getting used to, but after awhile it becomes second nature.

Hardly gets better than this!

I picked this up as an "more affordable" alternative to the Tokina 11-16 (amazing lens) before a summer on the road/in air. The only bad thing to me is wondering what I could have done with the 11-16, because this is a gorgeous piece. Fast, bright, quiet - a bit of a tank, but in the best way possible. This is the best ultra/wide I've seen for the money and good measure outside it's price. Wow!

Keeper of a Lense

Having researched between this lense, canon, tamron and sigma I decided on this lense. Sure the Canon L is probably slightly better and the 2.8 version has better bokeh, but you're paying a much higher price for those features also. I decided on this lense from reading several independant reviews on photography sites. For landscape photography this lense really shines. Don't go all the way to either end of the focal range, but this goes without saying on almost all lenses. When used with an aperature of 8 or 11, the detail is excellent. Color and sharpness is great also. Oh, the build quality is second to none also. Sure the lense is heavy, but I prefer a heavier lense. When taking photographs it feels better than having a lightweight lense attached. Overall I would give it a 4.8/5.0 just because everything has a slight room for improvement. I would definately recommend this to anybody wanting a fast, sharp and sturdy lense for landscape photography. This lense is not for the following. - weddings - portraits - wildlife - sports Get a telephoto lense for those.

Great Build, Inconsistent output

Got this for its wide angle purposes. Was somewhat disappointed with the output inconsistency, due to its "autofocus" being the only option. The lens doesn't have a focus problem per se, because some photos turn out very sharp and crispy, at a ratio of 1 to 10 though. That's not too optimistic compared to other lenses. If you get a Tokina, make sure it has manual focus. It'll impact the output consistency! Distortion is huge, but that's compared to regular lenses, so I guess that's irrelevant. The build is great! it looks like only the nuclear war could damage it. Due to this fact it's heavy.

A Must Have Super-Wide

I got the Tokina 12-24 AT-X ProDx II lens after months of reading reviews and trying lenses at brink-and-mortar stores. I couldn't be more satisfied. The ProDXII is an upgrade from Tokina's 12-24 AT-X ProDx in that it has improved multi-coatings to reduce flare and ghosting. I have taken about two dozen shots in three different locations with the lens hood off and the sun in frame trying to get it to ghost and flare. I have only been able get flare in one image. The improved multi-coating delivers results as promised. I also checked for potential darkening of the corners with filters attached. At 12mm I got no darkening at all with one filter. I did get darkening at 12mm after double stacking a circular polarizer and a warming filter. Zooming out to 13mm brightened the corners back up. This lens can handle any single filter at its widest with no problems at all. The push-pull AF/MF selector has taken some getting used to after flicking a switch for so long but the lens is accurate enough on AF that I've only needed to switch to manual for a small handful of shots. Even then it was to get the effect I wanted - not because the lens couldn't find focus. This lens is bright, sharp, clear, built like a tank, and delivers on every promise made by Tokina about its performance. I believe it is well worth the investment for weekenders, serious hobbyists, and pros alike.

Tokina 12-24mm Specifications

About Tokina 12-24mm

Tokina AT-x 124 PRO DX II 12-24mm f/4 AF lens exclusively for Digital SLR cameras with APS-C sensors.* This lens gives the Digital photographer an ultra wide-angle zoom lens that has the equivalent angle of view to an 18-36mm in full frame format.

The model II version offers an improved multi-coating. The new multicoating helps reduce reflections that can cause flare and ghosting even more than in the AT-x 124 PRO DX.

The AT-x 124 PRO DX II features the one-touch focus clutch mechanism. To use the one-touch focus clutch mechanism, move the focus ring forward, towards the front of the lens, for AF or back for MF. This allows for a fast and easy manual over-ride in difficult lighting situations.
* The lens is designed for Digital cameras with APS-C sized CMOS and CCD sensors (DX) , not designed for cameras with Full Frame sensors (FX).
