great drives, horrible packaging

received the drive in a box filled with popped plastic bags with the drive in an ESD bag and plastic end bumpers. problem is the box was three times too large and the drive was clearly rattling around unprotected inside the box i did not even try using the drive, i immediately contacted support who replaced the drive with little hassle. the replacement drive was packages MUCH better and is working perfectly fine. i currently am using 11x WD gold 18TB drives. i usually order 3-4 at a time which arrive in a very nice multi-portioned box meant for drives. but apparently buying one drive at a time causes them to ship the drives in a very bad manner

Satisfied with speed and quietness of drive

I have only used my 18TB drive (WD181KRYZ-01CMFB0) for a few months now. I am happy with its performance to date in my FreeBSD system. It is quieter than a few of my other WDC gold drives. I have been a satisfied user WDC's gold drives for 20+ years now. I currently have several WDC gold drives in my systems, varying in size from 1TB to 18TB. They seem to last approx. 15 yrs for me.

I use this drive solely for data storage which it works great for that, I had a problem with the order and WD gave me a 15% discount which made the deal very good for me. Drive reads/writes around 250mb/sec so not bad for this type of drive. some minor noises now and then but nothing bad.

Sad shipping methods for expensive drives.

Seems to be a broken record. Your shipping department needs to be fired. Too small a box. The drive gets to rattle around on its 3000 mile journey from Cali to my door. A cardboard spacer would make the difference. Are eco foam pellets not available? Will be installing it today. So performance is unknown.

Packaging designer should be fired

Bought 2x 22TB drives and they showed up in non-retail packaging. Would have been fine except the boxes are about 1.5" too long. Both drives had slipped out of the plastic shock absorber side pieces during shipping - so they were both just flopping around inside their boxes during shipping. Absolutely insane way to ship $700+ worth of drives.

Absolutely Terrible Customer Service

First drive was lost, then second drive took forever to arrive. The drive itself is good but the customer service is international some where in India probably and it's HORRENDOUS, unless you have a coupon get it from Bestbuy or Amazon.
