The Vivitar NDX Filters have an adjustable range from ND2 to ND1000.

What materials are the Vivitar NDX Filters made of?

The Vivitar NDX Filters are crafted from high-quality solid optical materials to ensure enduring performance and reliability.

What is the purpose of the Variable Neutral Density (ND) Filter?

The Variable Neutral Density (ND) Filter reduces the intensity of all wavelengths or colors of light equally, allowing photographers to alter the aperture, exposure time, and blur in various situations and atmospheric conditions.

How does the ND filter affect the quality of my photos?

The ND filter allows you to control the amount of light entering your lens, and subsequently adjust the shutter speed based on the specific motion you want to capture. This can result in stunning, professional-grade photographs.

Can I use the ND filter for both sunrise and sunset photography?

Yes, the 67mm Variable Neutral Density (ND) Filter is versatile and can be used to capture the subtle hues of a sunrise or the dramatic contrasts of a sunset.

JASON E : I have a Canon 18-135 kit lens. Will this fit?DICK P : If your lens cap says 67mm, yesJOHN F : Yes. According to the specifications from Canon referring to item number 3558B002, which is the product that I have attached to this answer, this lens has a 67mm filter size.DAVID B : Jason, look on your lens in the nomenclature area for a circle with a slash through it, followed by a number and "mm". That is the diameter symbol, and it means the lens will accept a filter of mm diameter. You can use filters of that size, or larger filters with a step-down adapter.MICHAEL R : IF your lens has 67mm opening , check with Canon for the lens opening.CHARLES B : Since I'm not familiar with the filter sizes of Canon lenses because I use Nikon lenses, I cannot answer your question. However, this filter is available in varying sizes. One of which should fit your lens.AMANDA C : It should fit. On the underside or on the front of your lens you'll see a number with a zero and a line through it. That is the size that you need to fit that lens.
Shopper : Will this disable the auto focus system on nikon cameras?WILLIAM H : I have a Canon 7D and the Vivitar Variable NDX filter didn't cause any of my lenses autofocusing problems at any reasonable adjustment. It was recommonded to me by a fellow camera club member with a Nikon so I doubt it caused him any problems either. For me, it has been very useful in getting long exposures of moving water.JOHN C : I wouldn't think so. I have a Canon camera and have no issues with it. However that being said common sense always prevails. When you past ND4 you should be on a tripod. And that means a well planned shot so in that situation especially if you go past ND8 I'd turn autofocus off.JANICE B : It still works. Might be a little slower at higher ND, but that's it.STUART P : it did not disable auto focus on my CanonRON P : Have not experienced any problems with autofocus on my Nikon. Used the filter set on max during the transit of venus last year.JOHN F : No, the auto focus will not be affected and will function normally. MIKE S : I am using it on Sony Alpha and the autofocus works. This is not the best V-ND filter though... I get some strange variations in certain light.CHARLES B : I have not experienced any problem with the Nikon's auto focusing system when using the NDX filter. However, if too high a filter factor is used, composition may become difficult. So, whenever possible, compose at the lowest filter factor then close down to the desired factor.
FLAVIO D : Is the filter ring metal or hard plastic?MICHAEL D : This is a good filter and will last a long time.MARK S : The ring is hard metal.DICK P : Metal and of high quality. Also, minimum and maximum points are marked. VERY useful.RON P : Metal. It gives a really wire range that is clearly marked on the rotating ring.MICHAEL D : MetalREUBEN K : the filter ring is metal, but the lens is flimsy film coated plastic and the glass can come loose and spin around easily and annoyingly. these are not worth the low price find a glass lensed quality filter. this lens filter lasted around 3 weeksCHARLES B : As far as I can determine, at least the portion of the filter that would screw into the lens is metal (perhaps aluminum).RANDOLPH H : Both the mounting ring and adjustment ring are metal, it is A very sturdy filterGUILLERMO Z : I think is metal, it has a very good quality and works perfectly, you should try it.JANICE B : It is metal. Very nice and convenient.WILLIAM H : As best as I can tell, it appears to be metal, similar to the metal of my Hoya filters. When tapped it sounds like metal. The threads screw in easly to my lens and also to A UV filter.Have only used it a few times, but so far I am very happy with it!

Good lens, one quirk

Filter works great. My only gripe is my 77mm lens caps seems to be a tiny bit too small. This means I'll need to purchase an additional lens cap and hope it works. We'll see!

Budget variable ND Works Well

This variable ND does a great job for the price. Fits nicely on the lenses I use it on and doesn't seem to leave any obvious color cast on the image at any intensity, whether it's photo or video.

Vivitar variable density filter review.

Works very well for such an inexpensive price. Unfortunately the number for the amount of density is not displayed only hash marks. Still. a nice piece of equipment.

Great budget filter!

So far, so good... especially if you’re on a budget. I’m relatively new to shooting and just want to build up a solid kit for s good price so I can learn and refine the basics before investing more. I’ve used this filter a few times for long exposures and I’ve been happy with the results.

Great value less than great performance but price is right and you get what you pay for

Needed it quickly for a México trip. Adorama shipped it expeditious. It’s two pieces of not the top quality glass over the lens but the variable density is useful and as I was shooting grab Candids for a family gathering it works just fine

Perfect for water shots

I've been frustrated trying to get good water shots of moving rivers, waterfalls, etc. A friend of mine has this filter and she recommended it to me. It's inexpensive so I figured it would be worth a try, Great results for a reasonable price.

can't use 10 stops

the Idea is good because you can use differed density but don't use it for 10 stops you will get the X in your pics. This was my first ND filter to figure out what I needed...

Vivitar ND filters work great and affordable

Vivitar ND lens works excellent for long exposure photos, it is easy to use and affordable, spending more money on expensive filters does not make the photo better, it is the photographer taking their time even when using non expensive filters... Vivitars quality is great for me it does what it is intended to do for my needs and I would recommend it ... And Adorama had just what I needed at the price I was looking for ....

Good but...

Great filter but your 67 diameter cap it will not fit since the filter is bigger than the thread. So it's not good to leave it on. Thankfully i had some KUVRD universal caps.

I like taking long exposure photos, up until recently only at night, now with the Vivitar 37mm Variable Neutral Density Filter I am branching out into daytime long exposure photos. The filter is well made and easy to use. Ordering from Adorama was quick and easy and shipping exceeded my expectations and it was here well within a week.

Handy filter for shooting waterfalls

Handy filter for shooting waterfalls. No need to carry a pile of filters....just turn this one till you get the desired effect. Also handy for shooting in the woods where a slower shutter helps to increase contrast in an all green setting.

Not meant for good quality pictures.

Not worth if you want good quality pictures. Pictures vignette a lot as you increase f stops. You get decent quality pictures till 3-4 stops only. Even then you can spot weird dark fringes which just keep getting darker for higher f stops. Buy only if you want a cheap 2-4 stop variable ND filter.

Vivitar NDX Filters, Adjustable From ND2 - ND1000...

• Vivitar Filters are manufactured from high-quality solid optical materials. Each individual filter is heat-treated to avoid any rare movement or distortion.
• This Variable Neutral Density filter reduces intensity of all wavelengths or colors of light equally, giving no changes in hue or color rendition.
• The purpose of standard photographic neutral density filters is to allow the photographer greater flexibility to change the aperture, exposure time and/or blur of subject in different situations and atmospheric conditions.
• Instead of reducing the aperture to limit light, the photographer can add a ND filter to limit light, and can then set the shutter speed according to the particular motion desired and the aperture set as needed.
