I'm a big fan of this upgrade vs. the full spectrum upgrade. Custom white balance resolves any daytime photo concerns, at least from a non-professional perspective. Emission nebula are so much easier to photograph with vibrant colors.

I installed this in my 1000D (also known as Rebel XS) and it worked perfectly. For installation, follow the instructions on Gary Honis' excellent website.

The filter comes as a single thin piece of glass, wrapped tightly in tissue paper inside a small Ziploc-style bag. Note that installing the filter yourself is a HIGHLY technical undertaking and, while it doesn't necessarily require any knowledge of electronics, there is a significant risk of ruining your auto-focus calibration or getting dust/oils permanently trapped behind or between the two filters if you don't know what you're doing. However, with patience, a good set of instructions for disassembling your specific camera model, and extreme diligence with regard to dust, it is absolutely possible for a hobbyist with a reasonably technical background to install. It took me several hours of work, spread over a few days, to install on my Canon EOS Rebel T6 (EOS 1300D) and it works great. The camera's built-in white balance presets will be wrong afterwards, so make sure you have a calibration card of some sort and only use custom white balance, or your images will turn out super red.

I hesitated for what seemed forever to pull the trigger on the filter for my Canon 60d.My fears were unwarranted. although the mod is not for the faint of heart you can do this yourself if your carfull. I was very pleased with the results, and am ready to mod another camera for astrophotography. I highly recommend the Baader filter. the pic is a quick test shot one minute sub with the 18-135 lens ,no guiding...no telescope

Decided to modify my Canon T3i for astrophotography. This filter replaced the stock filter perfectly. Auto focus still works and all IR light is blocked.
