I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Great item for both visual and photography of the sun through your telescope.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
You can elevate your astrophotography experience with the 160mm AstroSolar Telescope Filter, a high-quality, durable, and user-friendly accessory designed for observing and capturing the sun's intricate details. This innovative filter is a product of Baader Planetarium, a reputable brand synonymous with excellence in astronomical equipment.
The filter features the original Baader AstroSolar Safety Film (OD 5.0), meticulously cell-mounted and quality inspected by skilled technicians to ensure the highest standards. Unlike many ready-made filters that compromise image quality by stretching the material, the AstroSolar Telescope Filter maintains a stress-free mounting, crucial for achieving a high precision plane optical window. This efficient design allows for slight ripples in the film, a unique characteristic that ensures optimal performance and superior image quality even at high magnifications.
The clear white IR-rejecting front ring is engineered with reinforcing raised edges to protect the solar filter material from any sharp metal edges, ensuring durability and longevity. The filter's no-tool mounting system, complete with centering bolts, is designed to fit a wide variety of mechanical tube diameters, offering versatility and ease of use. The non-rotating sliding fasteners, made from premium aluminum, are equipped with machined indicators for precise adjustment, while the integrated Phillips screws provide additional security if desired.
An index scale beside each adjustment slot allows for fast and repeatable positioning of the filter cell onto different telescope tubes. Black sliding washers are included to block any sunlight from passing through the filter cell beside the filter area, enhancing safety and performance. For added security, three straps with Velcro-adhesive pads are provided to ensure the filter remains securely in place, even in windy conditions.
The filter comes with a warning text printed on the front side, reminding users to read the instructions before use, emphasizing the importance of safety in solar observation. It is presented in a sturdy cardboard gift box, suitable for safe shipping and storage.
The ASTF (AstroSolar Telescope Filter) Baader Solar Filter is designed with a temperature compensated cell to prevent stress on the film during mounting and temperature changes. The film is cemented onto an injection molded ring with thermal expansion properties matching the AstroSolar Filter material, ensuring consistent optical quality in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +50°C.
Safe for solar observation and photography with all high-end telescopes and extreme tele-lenses, this filter is suitable for the highest magnifications and detailed observation of individual sunspots. The package includes two sets of centering bolts (38mm length), three bolts with 10mm diameter, three bolts with 20mm diameter, adjustable to your telescope or dew cap's tube diameter, three safety straps with glue-pads, three rubber plugs to cover unused holes, and mounting instructions.
Choose the 160mm AstroSolar Telescope Filter for an unparalleled view of the sun, combining Baader Planetarium's innovative technology with user-friendly features for an efficient and enjoyable astrophotography experience.
