I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Mounted Filters with Baader AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0
After 15 years of offering AstroSolar film sheets as DIY-product, this system of Baader Solar Filters is designed to retain the true optical quality of the diffraction limited AstroSolar Safety Film.
Baader Solar Filters provide a professional and secure solution to observe and image the Sun using AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0. Many ready made filters do stretch the filter material like a drumhead in order to make it look like a piece of glass - this absolutely does destroy the image quality, rendering the film useless for high magnification work. AstroSolar must be mounted entirely stress free in order to perform like a high precision plane optical window. It sounds like a contradiction with traditional perception of quality, but AstroSolar must show slight ripples! Only when the film is being put under stress by an improper cell mount it performs just like any single side coated glass-filter made of untreated float glass.
Original Baader AstroSolar Safety Film (OD 5.0), cell mounted and quality inspected by skilled members of their staff
Clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforcing raised edges along the outer and inner circumference, designed to protect the solar filter material from contact with any sharp metal edge
No tool mounting and adjustment of the centering bolts to fit a wide variety of mechanical tube diameters. Bolts made to contact the outside or optional (if appropriate) the inside of the optical instrument tube
Non-rotating sliding fasteners made from aluminum that hold the centering bolts. These metal sliders are equipped with a machined indicator to point towards the adjustment index
Additional Phillips screws are integrated into the sliding fasteners, so that the centering bolts can be firmly fastened with a screw driver if preferred by the user
Index scale provided beside each adjustment slot - adjacent to each sliding fastener, for fast and repeatable adjustment of the filter cell onto different telescope tubes
Black sliding washers supplied to securely cover the full length of the adjustment slots in the aluminum frame - for blocking sunlight from passing trough the filter cell beside the filter area
Three security straps included, to secure the position of the filter cell with Velcro-adhesive pads. A safety feature to absolutely ensure a secure fit in front of the telescope under any circumstances (gust of wind asf)
Warning text printed onto the front side of each filter cell: Read the Instructions before use
Cardboard gift box fit for safely shipping the filter
ASSF (AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter) Baader Solar Filter for Spotting Scopes, amateur telescopes and camera lenses
This family of filters offers a stable and rigid solution for all spotting scopes, tele-lenses and amateur telescopes, with magnifications up to 120x. The AstroSolar filter material is likewise mounted onto a plastic ring whereas the plastic ring itself works as stabilizing element for the filter cell. This still plastic ring is mounted onto the aluminum front frame. The thermal expansion coefficient of the plastic and the film are similar.
Safe solar observation and photography with all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes and camera lenses
AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0, mounted stress free in high-quality cell
Scope of supply: ASSF Filter come with three centering bolts of 13mm diameter and 24 mm height, adjustable to the tube diameter of your binocular. ASSF 115 and 130 packages come with three centering bolts of 10mm diameter and 38mm length. In addition three safety straps with glue-pads and 32-page mounting instructions B
