I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
How can you safely observe the sun with unparalleled clarity The 65mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter by Baader Planetarium is your professional-grade solution. This high-quality filter is meticulously crafted with Baader's AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0, renowned for its diffraction-limited optical performance. Unlike many ready-made filters that compromise image quality by stretching the material taut, the AstroSolar filter is designed to be mounted stress-free, ensuring it acts like a high-precision optical window. This innovative approach allows for slight natural ripples in the film, which is crucial for maintaining superior image quality, especially when engaging in high-magnification solar observations.
The durable and efficient design features a clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforced raised edges, safeguarding the delicate solar filter material from any potential damage by sharp metal edges. The user-friendly, no-tool mounting system is equipped with centering bolts that can be easily adjusted to fit a wide range of mechanical tube diameters, ensuring a secure and stable fit for your spotting scope. The non-rotating aluminum sliding fasteners, complete with machined indicators, allow for precise and repeatable adjustments, while the integrated Phillips screws offer an additional level of security if desired.
For added safety and convenience, the filter includes an index scale beside each adjustment slot, black sliding washers to block any stray light, and three security straps with Velcro-adhesive pads to ensure the filter remains securely in place, even in windy conditions. The front of each filter cell is clearly marked with a warning text, reminding users to read the instructions before use, emphasizing the commitment to safety and user-friendliness.
The 65mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is ideal for solar observation and photography with all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes, and camera lenses, supporting magnifications up to 120x. The filter material is mounted onto a plastic ring that acts as a stabilizing element, which is then secured to the aluminum front frame. The thermal expansion properties of the plastic ring closely match those of the film, ensuring consistent performance under varying temperatures.
Included with the filter are three centering bolts, adjustable to the diameter of your optical instrument, and three safety straps with glue-pads. Additionally, a comprehensive 32-page mounting instruction booklet is provided, ensuring you can confidently and safely set up your solar viewing experience. The filter comes neatly packaged in a cardboard gift box, designed for safe shipping and storage of your AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter.
Elevate your solar observation to professional levels with the Baader Planetarium 65mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter, where innovative design meets user-friendly functionality for a clear, safe, and efficient astronomical experience.
