I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
Be prepared to experience the Sun like never before with the Baader 80mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter, a pinnacle of innovative and high-quality astronomical equipment. This filter is meticulously crafted to preserve the unparalleled optical quality of the diffraction-limited AstroSolar Safety Film, ensuring that your solar observations and photography are both safe and stunning.
The Baader AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0 is the heart of this filter, renowned for its ability to deliver a clear and detailed view of solar phenomena. Unlike many ready-made filters that compromise image quality by stretching the material, the AstroSolar film in this filter is mounted stress-free. This crucial detail maintains the film's precision and allows it to function as a high-precision optical window, complete with the characteristic slight ripples that signify a lack of distorting stress.
The durable, user-friendly design features a clear white IR-rejecting front ring with robust raised edges, ensuring the delicate solar filter material is safeguarded from any potential damage by sharp metal edges. The innovative no-tool mounting system, complete with centering bolts, is designed to accommodate a wide variety of mechanical tube diameters, offering versatility and ease of use.
The filter's non-rotating sliding fasteners, crafted from premium aluminum, are equipped with machined indicators for precise adjustment. An index scale beside each adjustment slot allows for quick and repeatable positioning on different telescope tubes. For added security, black sliding washers are included to block any stray sunlight from passing through the filter cell.
To ensure the utmost safety and stability, the filter comes with three security straps featuring Velcro-adhesive pads. These straps are a testament to the filter's user-friendly design, providing peace of mind even in the face of unexpected gusts of wind.
Each filter cell is clearly marked with a warning text, urging users to read the instructions before use, emphasizing the importance of safety in solar observation. The filter arrives in a protective cardboard gift box, perfect for safe storage and transportation.
The Baader 80mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is an efficient and professional solution for all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes, and camera lenses, supporting magnifications up to 120x. The package includes three centering bolts, safety straps, and comprehensive 32-page mounting instructions, ensuring you have everything you need for a seamless and secure setup.
Elevate your astrological observation and capture the Sun's grandeur with confidence and clarity with the Baader 80mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter.
