I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Great item for both visual and photography of the sun through your telescope.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
Take your solar observation and photography to the next level with the 115mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter, featuring the renowned Baader AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0. This high-quality filter is meticulously crafted to preserve the exceptional optical clarity of the diffraction-limited AstroSolar Safety Film, ensuring that your view of the sun remains sharp and detailed.
Unlike many ready-made filters that compromise image quality by stretching the material taut, the AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is designed to allow the film to exhibit slight natural ripples. This unique characteristic is crucial, as it indicates the film is mounted without stress, akin to a high precision plane optical window, which is essential for maintaining top-notch image quality, especially when working at high magnifications.
The filter features a robust, clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforced raised edges, which safeguards the delicate solar filter material from any potential damage by sharp metal edges. The innovative design includes a no-tool mounting system, complete with centering bolts that easily adjust to fit a wide range of mechanical tube diameters, ensuring a secure and customized fit for your equipment.
Constructed with non-rotating aluminum sliding fasteners, the filter boasts an integrated machined indicator for precise alignment. For those who prefer a more permanent setup, additional Phillips screws are integrated into the fasteners, allowing for a firm attachment using a screwdriver.
Each filter is equipped with an index scale beside the adjustment slots, providing a quick and repeatable method for adapting the filter cell to different telescope tubes. Black sliding washers are also included to block any stray sunlight from passing through the filter cell outside the filtered area.
For added security, the filter comes with three durable straps, complete with Velcro-adhesive pads, to ensure the filter remains securely in place during use, even in windy conditions. The front of each filter cell is clearly marked with a warning text, reminding users to read the instructions before use, emphasizing safety in solar observation.
The filter is housed in a sturdy cardboard gift box, which doubles as a protective container for safe shipping. The ASSF (AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter) Baader Solar Filter is an ideal solution for all spotting scopes, tele-lenses, and amateur telescopes, supporting magnifications up to 120x.
The package includes three centering bolts, each 13mm in diameter and 24mm in height, adjustable to fit the tube diameter of your binocular. For the ASSF 115 and 130 models, the package contains three centering bolts of 10mm diameter and 38mm length. Additionally, three safety straps with glue-pads and a comprehensive 32-page mounting instruction booklet are provided, ensuring you have everything needed for a safe and enjoyable solar viewing experience.
