I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Great item for both visual and photography of the sun through your telescope.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
How can you safely observe and capture the magnificence of the sun without compromising on image quality The 130mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter from Baader Planetarium is the professional-grade solution for solar enthusiasts and astrophotographers. This premium filter is meticulously crafted with Baader's original AstroSolar Safety Film (OD 5.0), ensuring that you experience the true optical quality of the diffraction-limited film, which is paramount for high-resolution solar observation and imaging.
Unlike many ready-made filters that stretch the material taut, potentially degrading the image, the AstroSolar film in this filter is mounted entirely stress-free. This is essential for it to perform like a high-precision optical window. The slight ripples in the film are a hallmark of its superior design, allowing it to provide an uncompromised view of solar phenomena.
The filter features a clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforced raised edges, expertly designed to prevent any contact between the delicate solar filter material and sharp metal edges. This thoughtful construction enhances the durability and longevity of the filter, making it a reliable choice for both amateur and professional astronomers.
Installation is a breeze with no-tool mounting and easy adjustment of the centering bolts, which are designed to fit a wide range of mechanical tube diameters. The bolts can contact either the outside or, if appropriate, the inside of the optical instrument tube. Non-rotating aluminum sliding fasteners, equipped with machined indicators, ensure precise and repeatable alignment, while additional Phillips screws allow for a more permanent installation if desired.
For added security, the filter includes three safety straps with Velcro-adhesive pads to ensure a secure fit in front of your telescope, even in windy conditions. The thoughtful inclusion of black sliding washers ensures that no stray sunlight passes through the filter cell outside the filtered area.
Each filter is accompanied by a warning text printed on the front side, reminding users to read the instructions before use, emphasizing the commitment to safety. The filter comes packaged in a sturdy cardboard gift box, perfect for safe transportation or storage.
The 130mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is part of a family of filters that offer a stable and rigid solution for all spotting scopes, tele-lenses, and amateur telescopes, supporting magnifications up to 120x. The filter material is mounted onto a plastic ring, which acts as a stabilizing element for the filter cell, and is then secured onto an aluminum front frame. The thermal expansion coefficients of the plastic and film are closely matched, ensuring the filter's performance remains consistent under varying temperatures.
In summary, this filter provides safe solar observation and photography with all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes, and camera lenses. The package includes three centering bolts, safety straps, and comprehensive 32-page mounting instructions, making it an innovative, high-quality, and stylish choice for anyone looking to explore the sun's wonders with clarity and confidence.
