I purchased this filter after reading many reviews. I used it for the Total Solar Eclipse a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. The filter provided great visual images. I didn't try any photography with it this time fort I'm still trying to figure that part out. I used the filter with my Celestron EVO 9.25 and am totally pleased with the performance of the filter. I would definitely recommend this filter to everyone interested in doing some solar viewing.

I got this filter to attach to my telescope for the 2017 solar eclipse. Optically it performed great and everyone had a good time looking at the sun slowly disappear, at the sunspots, and at the chromosphere for a few short seconds. In addition to being good optically, the filter itself seems to be well made. Where things falls flat though is the mount. Other reviewers have stated that correct sizing is critical so before getting this I measured the tube diameter of my scope under the assumption that this was the necessary measurement. Apparently it is not. A 150mm filter is grossly oversized for a 149mm tube. The 150mm appears to refer to the size of the aperture though which the filter transmits light, while the mounting system is several centimeters larger in diameter. Baader Planetarium does have sizing guide, but it is hard to find. Additionally, the mounting system uses glue-backed Velcro pads that you stick onto your telescope for safety. The idea is nice but the execution here also falls flat. The glue is not particularly well adhered to the Velcro pad and tends to pull off before the Velcro separates. Also, some might not like the idea of having Velcro pads glued onto their scopes, binoculars, or (especially!) telephoto lenses.

This was a last minute purchase and I was not sure if it would even fit. Thankfully it fit onto the lens hood of the lens.

The filter assembly is well made and high quality. It fits the lens perfectly, but just. The only way to attach this particular filter is to install it on the lens hood. It has three rubberized posts that are slightly adjustable to accommodate different dimensions, but the range of adjustment is quite small (approximately 3mm per post). I set my posts set as far inward as possible and in this position it is possible to insert them carefully into the lens hood and force them down until the rim of the filter frame is against the lens hood. There are also three Velcro straps to secure the filter from accidentally coming off. I have taken several sets of trial images and have not noticed any light leakage or occlusion of the sun's disc. I would recommend that anyone considering this filter check the specs carefully to get the correct size for proper fitment. This particular filter would not attach properly to a tulip style lens hood.

Great item for both visual and photography of the sun through your telescope.

Very well made product that fits my Celestron 7" Maksutov perfectly.
From the renowned Baader Planetarium, the 150mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is a premium-quality accessory for your astronomical observation needs. This filter is designed with the original Baader AstroSolar Safety Film (OD 5.0), meticulously mounted and quality inspected by skilled staff members. This ensures the retention of the true optical quality of the diffraction-limited AstroSolar Safety Film, providing a professional and secure solution for observing and imaging the Sun.
Unlike many ready-made filters, the Baader AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter does not stretch the filter material like a drumhead, which can compromise image quality. Instead, the AstroSolar is mounted entirely stress-free, performing like a high precision plane optical window. This might show slight ripples, but it's a testament to the filter's superior optical performance.
The filter features a clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforcing raised edges along the outer and inner circumference. This design protects the solar filter material from contact with any sharp metal edge. The filter also includes a no-tool mounting system and adjustable centering bolts, designed to fit a wide variety of mechanical tube diameters.
The filter's non-rotating sliding fasteners are made from durable aluminum and come equipped with a machined indicator to point towards the adjustment index. Additional Phillips screws are integrated into the sliding fasteners, allowing the centering bolts to be firmly fastened with a screwdriver if preferred by the user.
For fast and repeatable adjustment, an index scale is provided beside each adjustment slot. Black sliding washers are supplied to securely cover the full length of the adjustment slots in the aluminum frame, blocking sunlight from passing through the filter cell beside the filter area.
The filter also includes three security straps with Velcro-adhesive pads, ensuring a secure fit in front of the telescope under any circumstances. A warning text is printed onto the front side of each filter cell, reminding users to read the instructions before use.
The 150mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter is a versatile solution for all spotting scopes, tele-lenses, and amateur telescopes, with magnifications up to 120x. The AstroSolar filter material is mounted onto a plastic ring, which works as a stabilizing element for the filter cell. This plastic ring is then mounted onto the aluminum front frame, ensuring a stable and rigid solution for your astronomical observations.
Safe solar observation and photography are made possible with all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes, and camera lenses. The filter comes with three centering bolts of varying diameters and heights, adjustable to the tube diameter of your binocular. The package also includes three safety straps with glue-pads and a comprehensive 32-page mounting instruction manual.
Experience the universe in a new light with the 150mm AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter from Baader Planetarium, a trusted name in high-quality astronomical equipment.
