Because the Baader Planetarium 120mm AstroSolar BDSF 3.8 White-Light Digital Solar Filter for Telescopes is a testament to innovative technology in the field of astronomy, it stands out as a superior choice for professionals and enthusiasts alike. This high-quality solar filter, a successor to the acclaimed Baader Solar Filters OD 5.0, boasts the same robust cell and mechanical specifications, but with a significant upgrade - the AstroSolar PHOTO Film OD 3.8.
This reliable filter is designed specifically for digital videography and the lucky imaging technique, allowing for the shortest exposure times and effectively "freezing" atmospheric turbulences. However, it's important to note that the AstroSolar PHOTO Film OD 3.8 is intended solely for digital imaging, not for direct solar observation.
Unlike many ready-made filters that stretch the filter material, compromising image quality, the AstroSolar filter is mounted stress-free, ensuring it performs like a high precision plane optical window. This might contradict traditional perceptions of quality, as AstroSolar is designed to show slight ripples, but this is a key feature that ensures optimal performance.
The AstroSolar Telescope Filter (ASTF/BDSF) is a part of Baader's DIGITAL Solar Filter line for high-end telescopes, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The filter material is carefully cemented onto an injection-molded ring, which has the same thermal expansion as the AstroSolar Filter material itself. This free-floating film-carrier ring is secured to the aluminum frame with a fiber-reinforced plastic holding ring, providing maximum security against cell breakage.
The temperature-compensated cell of this efficient solar filter ensures that the AstroSolar filter material retains its excellent optical quality in any temperature, from -30deg.C to +50deg.C. This durable and reliable solar filter from Baader Planetarium is a testament to the brand's commitment to providing innovative and high-quality astronomical equipment.
