This advanced filter, an evolution from our highly successful Baader Solar Filters OD 5.0 launched in 2015, offers the same robust cell and mechanical specifications as our ASTF-Filter with Safety Film OD 5.0. The key distinction lies in the AstroSolar Film used - our renowned AstroSolar PHOTO Film OD 3.8.This specialized film has been tried and tested over the years, allowing for the shortest exposure times. It's primarily used for digital videography and the lucky imaging technique, effectively "freezing" atmospheric turbulences. However, it's important to note that the AstroSolar PHOTO Film OD 3.8 is designed exclusively for digital imaging and not for direct sun observation.Unlike many ready-made filters that stretch the filter material like a drumhead, compromising image quality, our AstroSolar filter is designed to be mounted entirely stress-free. This ensures it performs like a high precision plane optical window, essential for high magnification work. Despite contradicting traditional perceptions of quality, AstroSolar is designed to show slight ripples, which is a sign of its optimal performance.The ASTF/BDSF (AstroSolar Telescope Filter) Baader DIGITAL Solar Filter is a part of our high-end telescope accessories. It's meticulously crafted to ensure that the AstroSolar film is not put under stress during mounting or temperature changes. This is achieved through a temperature-compensated cell and a free-floating film-carrier ring, which is securely held onto the aluminum frame with a fiber-reinforced plastic ring.
