Buying an iPod classic in 2014 is a weird experience. Most smart phones nowadays have better user interfaces to play music or audiobooks, and offer the convenience of carrying just one device instead of camera, mp3 player, and cell phone. That is a matter of the past. 

The 160GB iPod classic can't be beaten in sheer storage volume and playing time (up to 36 hours are promised). 

On the downside, the player's software stumbles at times quite a bit, major delays in selecting songs or changing the sound volume are slightly annoying. Even during normal playback the device sometimes just stops for some seconds. This is quite a minus and shouldn't happen at all. 

If you dare to administrate your iPod with a different (meaning "non-Apple") software instead of using iTunes, you might be in for some unpleasant surprises - and Apple anyway isn't really helpful with their support, even if you fully play by Apple rules.

Also, be careful banging the device around too much. Instead of a storage chip it still uses a hard drive - and that doesn't like to much movement or even shocks.

After all though, I enjoy carrying a design classic with enables me to listen to a major part of my digital music collection, wherever I am, and far away from a wall plug. 

This is my only Apple product though. I owned a 30GB iPod before, which died by my fault in salt water. But it will stay my only Apple product, since I dislike Apple's concentration of hardware, software, distribution channel and content regulation [call it censorship] in one hand. At least you don't HAVE to use iTunes. But Apple's designs are simply unrivaled.

Back to the future! A bit dated, but big

Not having to think about how many songs, videos or photos I can store is fantastic!  Everything syncs painlessly with my Mac and iPad....

Love it!!!

Simply the best!

I don't have to listen to what the rest of the family is listening to. I have musical privacy.
