It can become detached!

The Midnight Blue color was pretty to have on my silver iPad. Not ever having had an iPad before, I chose this smart cover. It attached itself magnetically. Would shut off the display when closed. Opened nicely. Stood the iPad at an angle well. Looked great. Not much to say about it. It worked. One day, I realized that the magnetic hold was not enough to sustain the weight of the device it held. I picked up the iPad by the cover. The iPad detached itself leaving me with the cover in my hand and the iPad dropping faster than I could save it from impact. I was very lucky that this happened inches above the kitchen table and not feet from the concrete floor beneath. The iPad did not suffer any damage. This was not going to happen again. Something else that came to mind was that the smart cover only protects one side of the iPad device. I could foresee scratches showing up on the beautiful metal back side. So, I would only recommend this item if you are very, very mindful of your device. As for me, I found something different that meets my expectations for keeping my device safe and scratch free.
