Awesome machine. Upgraded the RAM myself to 64GB.

I bought the i7 with 1TB SSD and 8GB RAM, and upgraded to 64GB using Samsung SoDIMMs. So far so good! I don't do video editing, but am running Docker with a Linux SQL Server container, Visual Studio for Mac, and Azure Data Studio, along with a VNS, Microsoft Remote Terminal, and several desktops with Chrome and Safari browsers on two monitors. It appears about half of the memory is used, including a fairly large disk cache, and the cpu usage is relatively low. I bought one of those Vesa wall mounts and mounted the unit on the underside of my desk, which allows me to keep it and the cords out of sight/mind. I haven't noticed any fan noise at all, and the unit has never gotten very hot (although I don't pay much attention to it under the desk.) I am currently running with Dell U2515h and U2415b monitors, but will be upgrading to U2718q 4K monitors soon. Fyi I also spent the extra $ for AppleCare+ to extend the warranty to 3 years for better peace of mind since most of the electronics are soldered onto the motherboard and are not replaceable. For the capacity, performance, and physical size ... I am very happy with my purchase :). -- John

After much research and deliberation, I finally landed on this as my primary home office machine. I upgraded to 32gb ram myself for ~$ (purchasing Crucial 2666mHz ram and installing) instead of paying apple an extra $. Very powerful little machine. I think this is a great option if you don't need advanced graphics processing (no standalone GPU) and you already have peripherals that you like using. If you don't have peripherals and you don't mind apple's magic mouse + keyboard, I would consider a 2019 iMac too.

Ordered the Mac Mini to run Windows 10 Pro on to host an app and SQL client. Runs smooth, Windows is super fast without all the bloatware from the big box PC manufacturers.

A little bigger than I thought but still far less space than my old desktop! Bought ram to upgrade myself. Takes a little time but easy enough!

Apple finally stepped back into the mid-range upgradable computer market. For those of us that need upgradable RAM and don't require the portability of a laptop, expense and processing overkill of a Mac Pro, or the 5K monitor of an iMac this mini was welcome news. The only place it falls short is the onboard graphics controller, but with 4 (yes 4!) Thunderbolt 3 ports (plus 2 USB 3, HDI and ethernet) adding an eGPU is a simple upgrade that still keeps you over a thousand dollars cheaper than a comparable iMac. The RAM upgrade is easy enough, if you have steady hands and can follow a simple tutorial. I had mine swapped in under 30 minutes. So now I have a powerhouse for music production and a decently capable video editing machine for a fraction of what our last Mac Pro set us back. Very happy to stay within the Apple framework for a fraction of the cost.

Works as expected. Wish the gpu was more powerful. Fan does not start until unit is very hot.

Although carrying a nice slim and light form factor, Mac Mini is due for a design update. Apple has not updated the current design for many years. Mac Mini is a compelling stationary computer that offers enough power for all of your daily tasks. Do not expect to game on this machine much, however. Those paying attention to performance per dollar ratio should probably avoid Mac Mini, as it is a bit overpriced for the specs. Overall, a well-built light computer that performs well and does the job

Pros - compact, but capable - Quiet - Best part - plenty of ports of all kinds - HDMI, USB-C/Thunderbolt, USB, ethernet - NO NEED for dongles!!! Cons - RAM is not user upgradable, per Apple. (but there are videos on youtube)

Nice, compact little system with lots of power. I upgraded the RAM (purchased separately) and pushed it to 32GB. If you want more RAM, I suggest you do the same because Apple's pricing for RAM is outrageous. The main con to this system is the SSD is soldered in meaning you can't upgrade it. Apple's pricing on SSD upgrades are outrageous much like their RAM prices. That means you either have to pay a lot up front or use an external drive. It would have been easy for Apple to put a fast NVME drive in this which would allow a later user upgrade, but they chose not to.

Works great. One of the few apple products that allow memory to be upgraded. Unfortunately, the SSD is soldered in which is not so good.

Shipping was very well done and on time. The packaging is amazing as always with Apple, and putting Mac Mini in service was a bit intimidating. I had read a bit online about transferring, in particular about Lightroom Classic, since I have thousands of pictures and had not been able to update with my old Mac Book Pro 2011. Lightroom app was on the Mac Book Pro, all its labor was on a 4T external hard drive. I followed these steps: 1. Loaded from another 8T external drive the last back-up from Time Machine onto Mac Mini. 2. Updated OS on Mac Mini. 3. Checked that all was working correctly, and it was, amazing. 4. Connected 4T external drive with Lightroom labor and checked that Lightroom Classic was happy, and it was, amazing. 5. Updated Lightroom Classic. And I am back in business as if I had never left my Mac Book Pro, although everything is way faster, neater and comfortable. Five stars!

This is the second mini Mac I have owned. I find the Mac installed ram too expensive and the non ability to upgrade drives is a turn off. IN my older(late 2011) mini I was able to upgrade ram and drives to ssd drives It is still a 10 star computer, but the planned obsolescence that apple uses is a RIP(off).

I’d been waiting for a new mini, and finally ordered one. With the configuration I have, it’s mostly a pleasure to use, and much faster than the previous mini’s I’d had. There is sometimes a screen glitch, upon startup, which is a bit annoying, but, other than that, it’s a solid machine that is quiet, takes up little space, and is a move towards the future with 4 usb-c ports, hdmi, and 2 usb 3 ports. The dark grey color is nice, as well.

I needed to replace my old Cheesegrater Mac Pro, and wanted to retain both the power and the flexibility that a modular system provides by way of upgrades and add-ons. This maintains a computer’s value over many years, and I had used to keep my Mac Pro current up until about a year ago.The new 2018 Mini provides this in spades! I kept my keyboard, monitor, and other peripherals, and added this very expandable computer to replace the Box. The i7 is incredibly fast and with 6 cores was more c...

2018 Mac Mini
By Stanley K.
I am a professional photographer, and own four Mini’s—but the 2018 Mini is a whole new ballgame—so much better than the previous Mini I couldn’t believe it
Mac mini
Re-engineered in no small way.
In addition to being a great desktop computer, Mac mini powers everything from home automation to giant render farms. And now with eighth-generation Intel quad-core and 6-core processors and Intel UHD Graphics 630, Mac mini has even more compute power for industrial-grade tasks. So whether you're running a live concert sound engine or testing your latest iOS app, Mac mini is the shortest distance between a great idea and a great result.
Climb in. Geek out.
Mac mini features high-performance 2666MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM memory for faster rendering, working with massive files, or running multiple virtual machines. And now you can configure even more memory to run even heavier workloads.
Haul apps.
Mac mini now includes all-flash PCIe-based storage, with up to four times the read speeds of previous flash options. So you can load giant files and launch apps faster than ever and with the available 2TB SSD, you'll have twice the space for all of them.
Next-generation security.
Mac mini features the Apple T2 Security Chip second-generation custom Mac silicon designed by Apple to make Mac mini even more secure. The T2 Security Chip consolidates several controllers into one, and includes a Secure Enclave coprocessor that provides the foundation for encrypted storage and secure boot capabilities.
I/O, I/O, it's off to work you go.
With a variety of ports, Mac mini is ready for a variety of workflow configurations. Thunderbolt 3 is our most powerful and versatile port ever and Mac mini has four of them. The new HDMI 2.0 port delivers more bandwidth than its predecessor, so you can enjoy faster frame rates. And now Mac mini can be configured with 10Gb Ethernet so it's ready to move mountainous files and monstrous data up to 10 times faster.
Thunderbolt 3 gives you some seriously productive possibilities. Transfer data at up to 40Gb/s. Charge and power external devices. Connect up to two 4K displays and even a third with HDMI 2.0 or one 5K display. Or pair Mac mini with an eGPU for desktop-class graphics performance.
To the desktop. And beyond.
Because of its size, performance, and wide array of ports, Mac mini goes where no Mac has gone before. And now with even more cores packed into its 7.7-inch-square frame, you never know where you'll find a Mac mini or dozens of them hard at work.
