The Acratech GXP ballhead is simply the best ballhead I've ever used. It is large, but not as heavy as other ballheads I own. The most impressive thing about it is that it doesn't drift when locking it down. Most ballheads I've used, you put in position, lock it down, and find that the ballhead has drifted down from your intended target, requiring you to account for that or fiddle with it. No such issue with this one. A fantastic ballhead, highly recommended.

Very simple to use and the ball head does not collect dirt etc. Also very versatile as a straight ball head function and a pano.

This is a great ball-head. High quality manufacturing and finish. Super light, so works well in the field.

Very impressed with this head. The open design really does help with dirt and grime. The lubricated head I used before the GXP would gather dirt and dust like it was its job. With the GXP I have no qualms with setting the tripod on the ground, which gives me less to think about while in the field. The GXP is quite rigid, and is easily capable of holding a GFX100 and 45-100mm lens, a heavy combo. I also appreciate the ability to use the head as a leveling base for panoramas. This removes the need for a dedicated leveling base (just more unnecessary gear adding weight and taking up space). The knobs are fantastic, easy to operate with gloves, and are easily differentiated from one another when working quickly or in low light. The lever lock is smooth and very secure. I take care of my gear, but I really appreciate equipment that works well and doesn’t have to be closely looked after. This head strikes that balance perfectly. Well built with a beautiful design, this head is a pleasure to use, and frankly, to look at.

Sturdy. Easy to release and lock camera. Smooth ball head movement. Exactly what I needed.

Really love this head. Had the GP prior with the Acratech leveling base (because I wanted to have a visible bubble and GP bubble with lever clamp is on inside of plate). I can tell the difference in load (50lbs vs 25lbs) as my 5D MKIV with 100-400 feels just much more stable. Add that this is a very lightweight ballhead with the pano and gimbal feature (I use pano a lot, actually leve the head in that configuration), it's a no brainer for me.

What sets the Acratech GXP Ball-Head apart is its innovative design and multifunctionality, making it a top choice for both travel and outdoor photographers. This upgraded model builds on the success of the acclaimed Acratech GP Ball-Head, which was recognized as a leader in its class and awarded DP Review's prestigious "Top Pick".
The GXP Ball-Head is not just a ball head, but also functions as a gimbal head and a leveling panoramic head. This three-in-one design offers unparalleled versatility, allowing photographers to switch between different shooting modes without needing to carry multiple pieces of equipment.
The gimbal feature of the GXP Ball-Head is compatible with any lens (up to 400mm F4.0) that has a tripod collar. The unique combination of a pin in the bottom of the ball and a sleeve on the stem creates a smooth pivot for the gimbal, enabling you to capture action shots like a pro.
The GXP Ball-Head also doubles as a leveling panoramic head. By simply unscrewing the quick release clamp and attaching it to the bottom of the head, you can create level, single-row panoramas. This feature eliminates the need for a separate leveling base, making it easier to achieve accurate stitched panoramas even on rocky or uneven terrain.
Designed with the active photographer in mind, the Acratech GXP Ball-Head is both lightweight and rugged. Its open structure allows moisture, dirt, and debris to fall through, preventing them from getting trapped inside a socket. This feature is particularly beneficial for photographers who often work in challenging outdoor conditions.
The GXP Ball-Head is available with an Arca Swiss style, knob, or locking lever quick release clamp, offering smooth and secure camera mounting and releasing. With its world-class quality and innovative features, the Acratech GXP Ball-Head is a valuable addition to any photographer's gear collection.
