Questions & Answers

saurabh a : Can this be fixed on a light stand.?PHILIP C : YES, it can be fixed to just about anything.JOEL S : Yes, I've used them on many different types. The locking knob has 2 positions to fit either long stud like on c-stands or short studs like small air cushioned stands and will also lock onto 5/8" round bars. It is a very versatile item.BRIAN W : Absolutely, that is what it was made for, however it needs to be a substantial light stand. A small, lightweight stand wouldn't work.LAWSON, J : Yes it can. The handle on the right is the part that goes on the stand. You may have to unscrew the handle and move it down to the threads underneath.ROBERT W : Yes.LYNN A : i am sorry but i am not sure i can help. i bought this piece together with a tripod stand from adorama and another bar that my light tent attached to. it all works great. maybe adorama can give you all the pieces i bought but i am very happy with it and they were very helpfulMARK G : yes
Mary G : I finally got the griphead onto the tripod and the extender onto the grip head. But how do I attache the Flashpoint softbox to the extender arm griphead??? It is so much easier making chainmaille jewelry!KAREN C : Do you have the photo video by Jim Lawson? If you do, it will show you how to attach softbox. You simply take the Flashpoint softbox metal pole and put it through the other head grip horizonally.JAMES B : Mary, The grip does attach to the tripod, then the extension arm(which should have come with a grip also) is attached to the pgrip such that the attached grip is a counter-balance for the softbox which is attached to the other end on the extension arm. The arm end simply inserts into the softbox clamp and is tightened. All in all you should have the softbox, tripod, extra griphead, and extension arm (with attached griphead). Just play with it and you will figure it out.PHYLUS S : This company is a scam don't purchase and try to return you will not get your money back you have to buy another attachmentJIM B : MaryG, To connect anything to this system requires a Pin. Matthews #429599, 6" Pin with Collar, or something along that line. This supplies the standard 5/8" connection for modifiers. Unfortunately this is not widely known and the Pin is not included in the C-Stand Systems, leaving the customer wondering like you. The Pin is generally not included with a C-Stand rental either, curious! Hope this solves your problem. Good luck with the chainmaille jewelry.ANDREW R : I'm not sure I understand your question. The softbox would normally mount to a lighting unit of some sort, then the light mounts to the light stand (or in your case an extension arm). Does your extension arm include a grip head at one end? If so, you will most likely need a 5/8" spigot (or stud) to mount your light to the arm.
Mary G : I finally got the grip head and the extension arm. I'm sooooo confused as to how to attached this to my tripod so I can make my Flashpoint softbox turn horizontal instead of vertical. Nothing makes any sense and of course there aren't any instructions. I just want to take pictures of my jewelry for juried art fairs...it shouldn't be this difficult!!!! 1. How to I put the grip head onto the tripod? 2. What is the extension arm used for?Diane B : How does this attach to a lightstand as in the softbox lghtstand?CHARLES I : It isn't intended for attaching to a tripod. Unless you have a heavy pro model tripod the weight of the clamp plus a light modifier will tip over your tripod. Attach the grip head to the 5/8" light head connector on the top of a light stand. Very inexpensive light stands will do if you weight them down. You can add another 5/8" light head connector to the top hole above where you connected it. The holes in the clamp can be used to attach umbrellas or reflector holders. It isn't intended for attaching to a tripod. For that you might want a manfrotto super clamp.BRIAN W : This grip is designed to sit on the typical connector on top of a c-stand. Most tripods don't have this connector, however a light stand might work if it is weighted to handle the off center load this head enables.JOHN D : Hi Mary, I purchased the set-up I have and it was a little confusing. I did have some help since I purchased the equipment from a DVD on how to take photos of jewelry. Your head will attach to the tripod top, then you take the long arm and run it through the size hole that will accept the bar. Then one end of the bar will be the attachment point for the light hood. I just took mine down or I would have sent a picture. You control the horizontal height of the light hood by the heights of the tripod. The bar will be how you adjust the distance from the tripod to your working surface. Then the attachment for the hood to the bar will allow you to angle the light for your needs. Google "how to photograph your jewelry, by jim lawson" will be a great help. On the Preview tab you will see a 4 min video and if you watch it enough you will see parts of how he uses his light hood. This is the link to the DVD and it will be the best money you will spend if you plan on doing jewelry. We also make silver jewelry and our pictures, when we take them come out great, all because of the DVD and the lighting system Good luck JohnLADY B : Hello, Mary! The grip head mounts onto the light stand that holds your softbox, and the extension arm supports the softbox. Loosen the side of the grip head with the largest handle (the soft one), open it wide enough to slide it onto the light stand using the appropriate sized hole, and then clamp it down. Loosen the smaller handle on the grip head and slide the extension arm into the hole on that side, position it in the middle of the extension arm, then tighten the smaller handle. Mount the softbox on the highest end of the extension arm. At this point the softbox is in the vertical position. To change to the horizontal position, slightly loosen the largest handle to pivot the position of the extension arm till it's horizontal to the ground, which also moves the softbox to a horizontal position, then tighten the handle again. I hope this helps...

Avenger Makes Good Stuff

Very smooth. I like the rubber t-top also. I find I have to use a little extra effort to make sure nothing moves. But other than that, it's a very nice. Avenger has a great rep. This sits on an Impact C-stand withe turtle base. My copy has absolutely no wiggle on the 40" column. I was pleasantly surprised. The Kupo wasn't that much more. But I really like the take-down collar for the legs on both Impact and Kupo.

Grip Head That Really Grips!

These knuckles are the best. They fit your hand well, and they have rubber grips to help tighten. I prefer the black. Surprisingly, scratches don’t show up that much if they’re banged around. Great product!

durable and works perfect

This product came in handy just for about anything needed to be lifted or held in my at-home studio. Works perfect, the durability is what I was looking for after working too long with cheap plastics.
