I like these nice AKG P170 small diaphragm condenser cardioid pattern instrument microphones for recording acoustic guitar. I bought them based on an article on recording classical guitar in "Classical Guitar" magazine. I bought these to record the guitars I build. I'm still learning how to set everything up and get the room to sound good but so far I am very pleased for these quite reasonably priced professional condenser microphones. My guitar building instructor who is a flamenco recording artist and performer likes these also for flamenco guitar. They have a wide and flat spectrum and are sensitive and have a fast response. They are extremely high performance for the price. I recommend them. I wish they also came in a omni directional pattern as well.

If you are looking for the great sound of a 451 then you are wasting your time, go buy it and pay the price. This is obviously a cheaper mic but it’s great for the price and pretty open and responds well but I would recommend a wind screen and if you are using it for a room you may want to cut down a bit of highs and always do a high pas filter to reduce unwanted noise. I use a pair for a drumset overhead and it works fine.
