If you’ve heard of AdoramaTV, you know there is no better place to find in-depth photo and video tutorials. But did you know the creators at AdoramaTV also produce documentary series? Since 2015, beginning with TTL, Filmmaker Sal D’Alia has had their thumb on the industry’s heartbeat. D’Alia also has his ear on the pulse, taking us Behind the Beat.
Creators Creating
Behind the Beat follows the creation of a music video from conceptualization to execution. Each episode features a different artist with their own sound, vision, and budget. Sal takes these components and works with the artist to create a stunning music video.
In the first episode, Sal works with the artist Gabi Sklar. Sklar, a pop singer, released her first single (Liberteens) in 2017. In 2020, she released the EP “Hot Mess.” For Behind the Beat, Sklar chose her song “Rockstar,” an empowering pop anthem.
About this episode of Behind the Beat, Sal D’Alia says: “It’s a great starting point for understanding how to scale a professional set down to fit your own project while maintaining quality.”
With under $3200 in the budget, D’Alia squeezed every bit of production value he could out of the studio location. In about three hours, the crew recorded 20 shots to create a dynamic music video to highlight the message of the song. Some highlights of this music video are the use of bright, saturated colors, dramatic, at times almost noir lighting, and projected images.
