Every January, more than 170,000 people and 4,000 exhibiting companies flock to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas hoping to be a part of the future of tech. This year, Adorama teamed up with RIZKNOWS to cover the event and unearth some of the biggest trends and most noteworthy products. Here’s what you need to know:
Cars & Vehicle Technology at CES
From self-driving cars to all-electric vehicles, CES 2018 covered it all. The entire North Concourse of LVCC was overrun by automotive innovation. The 2018 Nissan LEAF, which won the Innovation Award in the Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology category, is a 100% electric car that gets 150 miles per charge and utilizes Nissan Intelligent Mobility to watch what you don’t see in order to make your drive safer for everyone. Toyota and Ford were also featured on the show floor, exhibiting their plans for a future of autonomous vehicles. In September of 2017, Toyota unveiled a self-driving test car and Ford says they’ll be able to debut a fully autonomous car in 2021.
Smart car technology was also featured prominently throughout CES. Ford has a new partnership with Waze that brings Waze directions onto the display within SYNC 3 vehicles when they’re connected to an iPhone. Alpine Electronics showcased a new aftermarket 9″ display called iLX-F309 that runs Apple’s CarPlay system. Anker Innovations showed off their Roav Viva, a $50 smart car charger with Amazon Alexa built in. It works with both iOS and Android phones and pretty much any car that has Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP (or Bluetooth Audio Streaming). You can ask Alexa for directions, to play music, and more, almost as if you were working with a smart speaker at home.
Last up on our CES list is electric scooters, bikes, and hoverboards. Not only is the space becoming increasingly crowded, but the tech and battery capacities are improving quite a bit. Unbenounced to security at the Sands Expo, we had a chance to ride around the Swagcycle E-Bike from Swagtron. It features a 36V Li-Ion battery with a range of 4-10 miles and a max speed of 10 MPH. We also had a chance to check out the UJet Relync R1, a foldable scooter with a top speed of 30 MPH. They actually have two models with different range limits (43 and 93 miles). The idea with the R1 is to make it compact enough to fit into the trunk of a car or in a closet.
