April 13, 2015

Manfrotto today announced the Digital Director, the world’s first Apple Certified app and iPad holder/tethering system that lets you manage your entire workflow for photo and video using Nikon and Canon DSLRs.

Note: The Manfrotto Digital Director will be available in June, but can be pre-ordered now from Adorama on a first-come, first-served basis. Credit cards will not be charged until orders are shipped.

Want to manage your Canonor NikonDSLR’s still and video features and workflow from your iPad? The new Manfrotto Digital Director, introduced today at NAB, is the only Apple Certified interface—including app and hardware—that lets you take control of your entire workflow process intuitively. All the key features found on a Canon or Nikon DSLR can be modified and viewed via the Digital Director. You can control exposure, ISO, shutter speed and aperture, among other features, directly from your tethered iPad.

The Digital director’s hardware includes a techno-polymer electronic board, a metallic connector, power supply and Apple-certified cable connection to ensure a stable connection between iPad and camera. Controls can be adjusted in real time, and the results can be viewed live on the iPad.

But it’s the software that sets Digital Director apart, and the fact that Digital Director has been approved by Apple’s Made for iPhone/iPad program certainly helps. Cool features include an interactive focus tool, which lets you choose the focus point on screen and then zoom in on it in order to fine-tune focus. Once the video has been recorded or still image has been captured, the file can be downloaded onto the iPad so the photographer can check image details and modify the exposure.

Here’s a good video overview of the Digital Director, provided by Manfrotto:
