Color gel photography is a powerful way to direct the eye and create emotion. But how do you choose the right color combinations?
In this video, I share one of my favorite color combinations: Blue/Violet and Yellow/Orange. This color combo is powerful because it creates an epic pop and contrast–the complementary colors and warm/cold mix allow the image to jump off the page. Furthermore, this color combination feels very cinematic and ‘heroic’ because it is a common color scheme for superhero movie posters!
We used a single piece of fabric to sculpt an elegant, eye-catchlight shape around my subject. Notice in the results how the subject’s skin takes on a liquid/metallic look and the warm light carves out the edges of her profile for a truly bold result.
