Rangefinder:
The rangefinder style is a hot commodity, and while typical SLRs contain a mirror box, rangefinder-style cameras have a rangefinder mechanism. In this case, the viewfinder shifts to the left side of the unit, allowing the shooter to peer through the lens and set the focus (among other things) while keeping their other eye on the subject and surroundings. In the case of the 50R, this cuts down the size of the body by nearly one inch (when compared to its predecessor, the 50S).
Body:
The frame of the unit is elegant, discreet, and lightweight — the GFX 50R scales in at only 775 grams or 27.3 ounces — and is made of magnesium alloy, which contributes to the lightness and makes it water- and dirt-resistant, and includes 64 points of weather-sealing. The body is also capable of handling temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius (or 14 degrees Fahrenheit) if you’re traveling to the colder parts of the world, and includes easily accessed and adjusted dials on the top of the body so users can quickly switch shutter speed and manage stops.
Image quality:
Although the GFX 50R has a sleek and nimble body, the picture quality does not suffer. Fujifilm dropped a 51.4 megapixel medium-format sensor in the body and paired it with the X-Processor Pro to capture clean photos and vibrant colors. The ISO can be lowered to 100 and the shutter speed up to 1/4000 for crisp photos in a bright setting. For the filmmakers out there, the 50R can record up to Full HD 1920×1080 29.97p. The 50R is also the first in the GFX line to feature Bluetooth connectivity, along with WiFi, so you can share that content to your social pages with ease.
Capture One:
Also during Photokina, Fujifilm announced that the GFX system would now be compatible with additional software, including Capture One Pro, as well as HS-V5 for Windows and Tether Shooting Plug-in PRO for Adobe Photoshop.
