As a content creator, can you imagine having all your lighting needs in a single hard case? I’m talking about soft, flat light for interviews and hard and focused light. Colorful light to enhance your production. Additionally, barn doors create a classic interview look. All this and more is possible with the new Godox MS60 Series. The Godox MS60R and Godox MS60BI are small LED lights that pack a huge punch. Versatility is the name of the game with these lighting instruments. They can be powered in four different ways. Modifiers such as filters, lenses, and speed rings don’t attach to the front of the unit in the typical way. Instead, they become part of the unit, keeping the footprint small. The Godox MS60BI is a Bi-Color unit, while the Godox MS60R is a full RGB fixture. Let’s explore how these light instruments will change the way you create.

Biggest Features of the Godox MS60R/MS60BI

The Godox MS60R and Godox MS60BI are so packed with features that it’s hard to decide which is most exciting. Perhaps it’s not a single feature or even 2 or 3, but rather the versatility that makes these lighting instruments shine (pun intended). These Godox lights have four power supply options. Additionally, the beam of these lights can be shaped and modified with numerous easy-to-swap lens and filter attachments. Let’s look at a few that really stand out for my use case, being a content creator.

Compact Yet Powerful

These Godox MS60 series lights weigh in at around 300g. This is not just great for your back when traveling with a kit but allows for the MS60R/MS60BI to be mounted and hung easily, no matter the location. With the E27 adapter, these tiny powerhouses can even be installed in track lighting or used to replace a conventional lamp in tight locations. This allows for more natural-looking light and less of a footprint. Let’s not forget these lights put out 60W of power. That’s 11,000 Lux for the Godox MS50R.

Multiple Power Sources

As mentioned above, the Godox MS60R and Godox MS60BI can be powered in four ways. For remote locations, the units can be powered by a battery. When used to replace track or standard lighting, the E27 adapter is what you need. A conventional power cord can be used when shooting all day in the studio. Finally, the MS60 Series can be powered via USB-C. I used the adapter for my MacBook Pro, and it worked seamlessly. As a content creator who works in various locations, I find this setup ideal. It should be mentioned that no bulky adapters are needed to achieve this versatility. The MS60 series is fully modular, so you can swap the battery for AC power without changing the size or shape of your unit.

Available in Full RGB or Bi-Color

Godox understands that while we all love RGB lights, sometimes Bi-Color will do the job. Because of this, they offer the Godox MS60BI. As much as color is used in our productions, I’d say 90% of the time, I am in CCT mode with my LEDs. This makes the less expensive MS60BI a great option for key and fill lighting when shooting interviews and most scenes in documentary work. Add to the kit a few Godox MS60R units for special effects and set lighting, and you have a complete and versatile kit. Alternatively, for one-man-band and small crews that want each fixture to “do it all.” A complete setup of MS60Rs is ideal.

Scene Control with CRMX via the KNOWLED APP

Along with DMX/RDM, the Godox MS60 series lights can be controlled remotely using the KNOWLED APP. Using your iPad, you can control your scenes and take advantage of all the functions and special effects of the Godox MS60R and Godox MS60BI. When mounted as track lighting, this allows for precise control when illuminating artwork. Additionally, light shows for concerts, stage performances, or creating a dance club vibe in your short film are all in your control. It’s amazing to see how much creators can do with this versatile system. For me, this is a big part of choosing the right gear for my work.

Light Shaping Options

From speed rings to focusable lenses, the Godox MS60 series has you covered. Additionally, if you use the amazing Liteflow system, the Godox DL5 Lite Parallel Beam Booster increases brightness up to 40 times. Innovative tools like the magnetic kit help creators shape the light without adding much weight or footprint.

Who Should Use the Godox MS60R and the Godox MS60BI KNOWLED LED Lights

These versatile lights can enhance any creator’s production. Singularly, the Godox MS60R could be used to add drama and interest to backgrounds or add some color contrast to commercial projects. The Godox MS60BI lights are ideal for interviews, talking heads, and content creation. Whether used as a key light, spotlight, fill or in some other creative fashion with the many accessories, the MS60 series will fit nicely in any sized production. One particularly good use case is the solo content creator looking for a kit that offers many options but takes up little space and doesn’t break the bank. The 2-light MS60R kit is the sweet spot for that kind of creator. Conversely, a single MS60BI with softbox works great for a talking head YouTuber or Podcaster.

Conclusion

The Godox MS60R and Godox MS60BI make up an ecosystem ideal for more than just content creation. Whether you are lighting an art show or shooting a commentary. Or a live performance, these lights have you covered. Godox has created some complete kits for those who want to dive in, or the creator can grab a single unit and see how it fits into their workflow. Either way, the Godox MS60 series is high on my list of recommendations for small LED lighting.
