With the latest in monitoring and recording solutions, Blackmagic Design just unveiled its new Blackmagic Video Assist 12G models at the 2019 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC).
“The original Blackmagic Video Assist monitors and recorders were very popular and a fantastic way to upgrade older cameras, as well as for use in general broadcast areas of the television industry,” says Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO, in a statement. “These new models are an incredible improvement and incorporate all the lessons we have learnt from our customers in Hollywood. They have brighter LCD screens, 12G-SDI, Blackmagic RAW, better focus assist tools, presets, 3D LUTS and much more! They are so nice and it’s very exciting!”
The two models — which include the 5-inch and 7-inch versions — include brighter HDR screens, 12G-SDI, four built-in scopes, added focus assist features, plus 3D LUTs, and Blackmagic RAW native recording.
Key Features:
- Large, 2500nit touchscreen LCD display
- 12G-SDI and HDMI recording (for SD, HD, and Ultra HD)
- 3D LUTs
- SD/USH-II cards supported
- Built-in scopes (waveform, vector, parade, histogram)
- Standard open file formats
- Can record directly to USB-C
- Native Blackmagic RAW recording capability
- Compatible with NLE software, including DaVinci Resolve
The Video Assist 12G allows for recording up to 2160p60, and the brighter 2500-nit screen also gives creators a clearer picture, especially when shooting in bright, direct sunlight.
The touchscreen LCD includes dedicated controls to help you monitor your footage (see in the image below), and also features a heads up display with timecode, media, and audio status. Scopes, focus, and exposure can also be accessed, and 3D LUTs can be controlled via the LCD.
The 7-inch unit has two built-in media slots (the 5-inch has a single one), and both have 12G-SDI, audio inputs, USB-C external recording, a panel speaker, and a headphone jack. Two battery slots are also included for Sony L-Series batteries, or it can be powered via 12V universal power supply.
The Blackmagic Video Assist 12G 5″ () and the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G 7″ () are available for preorder now.
