Fans of the photo editing plugin set the Nik Collection will be pleased to know that Nik’s new owners, DxO, have made it official: They’re busy preparing a new release for later this year. Nik, previously owned by Google, was left to rot on the vine with no updates for a year and a half, until DxO swooped in last October to save the highly-regarded software.

The first sign of DxO’s adaptation of Nik technology can be found in DxO PhotoLab, formerly DxO Optics Pro, the first DxO product to use Nik’s U Point technology for local editing of RAW and JPEG images.

The Nik Collection, which consists of Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. and DxO’s FilmPack, which emulates the looks of more than 80 analog film renderings, have quite a deal of overlap, so the image-editing community is abuzz about whether the two softwares will be somehow combined.

Here’s the official DxO announcement:

Dear Nik Collection users,

We at DxO are very pleased to welcome the Nik community!
We wish you a very happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year: may you be inspired to take spectacular photos in 2018!

Like you, we are passionate about photography and image quality. That’s why we view this opportunity with Nik as a commitment to ensure that you — that all of us who enjoy taking photos — are guaranteed to have the very best solutions at our disposal.

You’ll be happy to know that our developers are enthusiastically working on a new version of the Nik Collection to be released in 2018!

Exact release date and pricing have yet to be announced; as the DxO team says, stay tuned.
