Nikon D5200 The newest offerings from Nikon include some significant upgrades to key products in its most popular products. Perhaps the most significant of these is the introduction of the Nikon D5200, a $899.95 DSLR that, with its 24MP sensor, 39-point AF system, and advanced metering system, will have cross-over appeal to many advanced hobbyists. Nikon 1 SystemNikon Also expanded its Nikon 1 system of compact interchangeable-lens cameras, adding the 14MP Nikon 1 J3 and the all-new, lower-cost, 10MP Nikon 1 S1 (shown above). Both models feature Nikon’s CX-format CMOS sensor and offer what Nikon claims is the world’s fastest focus acquisition time. The cameras have a 73-point AF array and 15 fps burst with continuous AF, ideal for capturing action. Along with the two new cameras, Nikon announced Nikkor 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 and Nikkor 10-100mm f/4-5.6 lenses, equivalent to an 18-35mm and 27-270mm lenses on a 35mm camera, respectively. Finally, Nikon announced the WP-N2 underwater case for Nikon 1 System cameras. The Nikon 1 J3 camera with the 10-30mm lens will be available from Adorama in February for $599.95. The Nikon 1 S1 camera with the 11-27.5mm lens will be available in February for $499.95. The J3 will come in White, Black, Silver, Burgundy, and Beige; the S1 will come in White, Black, Red, Pink, and Khaki. The 1 Nikkor VR 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 and 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4-5.6, will cost $499.95 and $549.95, respectively. The new WP-N2, underwater case will be available in February for $749.95.
Nikon Coolpix S6500At a typical CES, Nikon usually launches a wide range of compact cameras, but times have changed and with compact camera sales dropping and with the success of cameras announced last year at Photokina, it makes sense that Nikon launched just one compact digital camera—but really made it count. The super-slim Nikon Coolpix S6500 has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, a 12x optical zoom with a range of 25-300mm (35mm equivalent), and interesting user-friendly portrait features such as five new Glamour Retouch effects, Brighten Face, Reduce Dark Circles, Whiten Eyes, Whiten Teeth, and Redden Cheeks. The 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor is said to produce sharp detail and vivid color. Users can operate the camera remotely via their iPhone or Android devices, and can record full HD video. The Nikon Coolpix S6500 will be available later this month from Adorama for $219.95 in Silver, Black, Red, and Orange.
