There’s a brand new member of Sony’s popular G-Master line. The latest announcement from Sony today featured the new 24mm f/1.4 wide-angle prime lens, which Sony notes is the lightest and most compact 24mm f/1.4 lens to date.
Weighing in at just 15.7 ounces, with a size of 3×3.75 inches, and a 67mm filter diameter, the lens includes 13 elements in 10 groups, along with two XA (extreme aspherical) elements meant to combat sagittal flare, and three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements.
The lens’ Sony Nano AR coating allows for reduced lens flare and ghosting, giving you even more options in highly-sunny outdoor shots where the sun is at that not-very-convenient angle.
As with other lenses in Sony’s G Master line, the 24mm f/1.4 lens has a close-up performance of 0.79 feet — and maximum magnification of 0.17x — which produces soft, lush bokeh thanks to the spherical aberration in manufacturing, as well as the 11-blade circular aperture.
The new DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) focus system gives you triple the thrust than the former focus drive system and gives speedier, and quieter autofocus in both stills and movies.
The lens also features a focus ring with Linear Response MF for custom control and an aperture ring for aperture adjustments.
The Sony 24mm f/1.4 lens is available for preorder on September 21st at 10AM for on Adorama.com and will begin shipping in October 2018.
