Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f/4 Premium Wide Zoom: First Look

Adorama is now accepting pre-orders for Sony’s latest consumer products. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Credit cards will not be charged until orders are shipped.



Sony Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS

TheSony Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS is a premium wide-angle still photography zoom lens that’s designed to be used in conjunction with all Sony E-Mount cameras but especially with the a7 series of full-frame cameras. It features Zeiss T-Star coating to reduce flare and ghosting, three ED glass elements to suppress chromatic distortion, and a f/4 maximum aperture that remains the same throughout the zoom range. The lens has built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and is sealed against dust and moisture.

TheSony Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS is tentatively expected to be available from Adorama in November, and will cost $1,348.


HVLF 32M Compact Flash

Sony has added a lower mid-range flash model, the Sony HLVF 32M Compact Flash, bringing its lineup of shoe-mount flash to four. With a guide number of 32 meters, the flash’s output is relatively powerful while remaining compact and lightweight compared to the larger, more powerful F43M and F60M or the smaller GN20.

The flash automatically zooms from 24-105mm and can expand to 16 mm via a diffuser. The head can rotate up to 90 degrees for bounce flash. The flash offers wireless control, auto white balance compensation, TTL and manual output control, variable by 1/3 EV steps, and has a built-in bounce sheet. It is powered by two AA batteries.

The Sony HLVF 32M Compact Flash will be available from Adorama for $298 by the end of November.

Microphone and wireless kits

Sony has introduced a Microphone and XLR box adaptor kit for a direct connection with a7 series, RX series and high-end Sony camcorders via Sony’s proprietary MI (multi-interface) shoe. The ECMXM1 microphone is included. TheSony KLR-K2M adapter kit with microphone will be available at the end of October for $598.

Sony has also announced the RMT-VP1K Wireless Receiver and remote commander kit, which is compatible with all Sony cameras via the Multi terminal, and offers 3 channel positions to avoid cross talk. It has modes for shooting still or movies, and has a 360 degree Infrared receiver. TheSony RMT-VP1K will be available in November for $69.
