Experience the superior quality of the Archival Methods Museum Board, meticulously crafted from 100% pure cotton fiber. This 17x22 Bright White 4 PLY PKG15 board is a neutral-toned, acid-free, and lignin-free product, designed with alkaline or neutral sizing for enhanced durability.
Each board is thoughtfully buffered with calcium carbonate, providing a robust shield against the damaging effects of acid migration from matted artwork. This feature also guards against environmental pollutants that could potentially lower the pH of the mat board over time, making it more acidic.
Our Museum Board is manufactured without the use of optical brightening agents, ensuring the preservation of its bright white color. With a thickness of 4-Ply / 60 Pt. (Approximately 1/16"), this board is made from 100% Cotton fiber pulp (99% Alpha Cellulose), and is devoid of any post-consumer waste recycled pulp.
The paper used is meticulously free of metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, and residual bleach peroxide. It boasts a minimal sulfur content of less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur, while the iron content does not exceed 150ppm and copper is limited to 6ppm.
Alkaline sizing is employed for both internal and external sizing, and no alum is used in the manufacturing process. The board is buffered with calcium carbonate 2-3% alkaline reserve, pH 9 +/-0.5, ensuring it remains acid-free.
The color dyes used are light-fast and non-bleeding, ensuring the board's color remains vibrant and consistent. This board is designed to not degrade over time, ensuring it does not harm your mounted matted artwork.
Our Museum Board passes the PAT (Photographic Activity Test) ISO IT 18916 (formerly ISO 14523 ANSI IT9.16). The lignin content is tested by TAPPI 236 cm-85 and has a Kappa number of less than five.
The single ply sheets are laminated together using an all-natural starch adhesive. This board is ideal for matting, mounting, and preserving fine prints, precious documents, and both traditional and digital photographs. For window mats and mat backing, this 4-Ply board is recommended as it creates a 1/16" separation between your artwork and its glazing, providing a flat, supportive backing for both display and storage.
