Because of its superior quality and durability, the Archival Methods Museum Board is the preferred choice for professionals and hobbyists alike. This 22x28 inch, 2-ply museum board is crafted from 100% cotton fiber, ensuring a sturdy and reliable surface for your prints, documents, and photographs.
The Antique White variant of this museum board offers a warm, yellow-ivory tone, providing a unique backdrop for your artwork. This board is acid-free and lignin-free, incorporating alkaline or neutral sizing for added longevity. It's buffered with calcium carbonate, offering protection against acid migration from matted work and environmental pollutants that could decrease the pH of the mat board over time.
Unlike many other boards on the market, no optical brightening agents are used in the production of this museum board. The 2-ply, 30 Pt. (approximately 1/32") board is made from 99% Alpha Cellulose, free from post-consumer waste recycled pulp, metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, and residual bleach peroxide. The sulfur content is less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur, and the iron content does not exceed 150ppm, while copper does not exceed 6ppm.
The alkaline sizing used in this museum board is both internal and external, with no alum used in the manufacturing process. The board is buffered with 2-3% calcium carbonate alkaline reserve, maintaining a pH of 9 +/-0.5, ensuring it remains acid-free. The color dyes used are light-fast and non-bleeding, ensuring your artwork remains vibrant and true to its original colors.
This museum board passes the rigorous Photographic Activity Test (PAT) ISO 14523 (formerly ANSI IT9.16), and the lignin content is tested by TAPPI 236 cm-85, with a Kappa number of less than five. The single-ply sheets are laminated together using an all-natural starch adhesive, making it ideal for matting, mounting, and preserving fine prints, precious documents, and both traditional and digital photographs. With a 2-Ply mat, you can create a 1/32" separation between your artwork and its glazing, providing a flat, supportive backing for both display and storage.
