Because preserving your precious prints, documents, and photographs is paramount, the Archival Methods Museum Board is meticulously crafted from 100% cotton fiber, ensuring a durable and high-quality finish. This Warm White Museum Board offers a pleasing warm tone without any yellow cast, enhancing the visual appeal of your artwork.
Being acid-free and lignin-free, this museum board incorporates alkaline or neutral sizing, providing an optimal environment for your artwork. It is buffered with calcium carbonate, a feature that safeguards your precious pieces from the damaging effects of acid migration and environmental pollution. This ensures the pH of the mat board remains stable, preventing it from becoming more acidic over time.
Unlike other boards, no optical brightening agents are used in the manufacture of this 100% cotton Museum Board. The paper is free from metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, and residual bleach peroxide, with sulfur content less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur. The iron content does not exceed 150ppm and copper does not exceed 6ppm, ensuring the purity of the board.
Alkaline sizing is used for both internal and external sizing, with no alum used in the manufacturing process. The board is buffered with calcium carbonate 2-3% alkaline reserve, maintaining a pH of 9 +/-0.5, making it acid-free. The color dyes used are light-fast and non-bleeding, ensuring the longevity of your artwork's vibrancy.
This sturdy museum board will not degrade and cause harm to your mounted matted artwork. It passes the rigorous PAT (Photographic Activity Test) ISO IT 18916 (formerly ISO 14523 ANSI IT9.16), a testament to its archival quality. The lignin content is tested by TAPPI 236 cm-85 and has a Kappa number of less than five, indicating its superior quality.
The single ply sheets are laminated together using an all-natural starch adhesive, making this 4-Ply board ideal for matting, mounting, and preserving fine prints, precious documents, and both traditional and digital photographs. For window mats and mat backing, Archival Methods recommends using this 4-Ply board, which creates a 1/16" separation between your artwork and its glazing, providing a flat, supportive backing for both display and storage.
