From the trusted brand of Archival Methods comes the Museum Board 8x10 Polar White 4 Ply PKG 25, meticulously crafted from 100% pure cotton fiber. This premium quality museum board boasts a cool Polar White tone, subtly enhanced with a blue shift, offering a visually pleasing backdrop for your precious artworks, prints, and photographs.
This acid-free and lignin-free museum board is designed with an alkaline or neutral sizing, ensuring it remains free from the harmful effects of acid migration. It is also buffered with calcium carbonate, providing an additional layer of protection against environmental pollutants that may cause the pH of the mat board to decrease over time.
The Archival Methods Museum Board is manufactured without the use of optical brightening agents, maintaining the integrity of its 100% cotton composition. The board is 4-Ply / 60 Pt. (Approximately 1/16") and made from 99% Alpha Cellulose cotton fiber pulp. It is guaranteed to be free from post-consumer waste recycled pulp, metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, and residual bleach peroxide. The sulfur content is meticulously controlled to be less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur, while the iron content does not exceed 150ppm and copper is kept below 6ppm.
The alkaline sizing used in the manufacturing process ensures both internal and external durability, with no alum used at any stage. The board is buffered with a 2-3% alkaline reserve, maintaining a pH level of 9 +/-0.5, making it completely acid-free. The color dyes used are light-fast and non-bleeding, ensuring the board's color remains vibrant and true over time.
This museum board is designed to not degrade or cause harm to your mounted matted artwork. It passes the stringent Photographic Activity Test (PAT) ISO IT 18916 (formerly ISO 14523 ANSI IT9.16). The lignin content is tested by TAPPI 236 cm-85 and has a Kappa number of less than five, ensuring the longevity of your artwork.
The single ply sheets of this museum board are laminated together using an all-natural starch adhesive, making it an ideal choice for matting, mounting, and preserving fine prints, precious documents, and both traditional and digital photographs. For window mats and mat backing, Archival Methods recommends this 4-Ply board, which creates a 1/16" separation between your artwork and its glazing, providing a flat, supportive backing for both display and storage.
