Archival Methods Matt boards

By JOE N.

Package arrived on time. In good condition and the right material.

What sets the Archival Methods Museum Board apart is its superior quality and meticulous construction. Crafted from 100% cotton fiber, this Polar White Museum Board boasts a cool tone with a subtle blue shift, making it an ideal choice for showcasing your artwork, photographs, and precious documents.

This professional-grade Museum Board is acid-free and lignin-free, incorporating both alkaline and neutral sizing for enhanced durability. It's buffered with calcium carbonate, providing a robust shield against acid migration from matted work and environmental pollutants that could potentially lower the pH of the mat board over time.

Unlike many alternatives, this Museum Board is free of optical brightening agents, ensuring the integrity and longevity of your displayed items. With a thickness of 4-Ply / 60 Pt. (Approximately 1/16"), this board is constructed from 100% cotton fiber pulp (99% Alpha Cellulose), devoid of any post-consumer waste recycled pulp.

The paper used in this Museum Board is meticulously crafted, free of metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, and residual bleach peroxide. Its sulfur content is less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur, and it contains minimal iron and copper content, ensuring the preservation of your artwork's original colors and quality.

The alkaline sizing used in this Museum Board is applied both internally and externally, with no alum used in the manufacturing process. The board is buffered with calcium carbonate 2-3% alkaline reserve, maintaining a pH of 9 +/-0.5, making it truly acid-free.

The color dyes used are light-fast and non-bleeding, ensuring that your artwork remains vibrant and true to its original colors over time. This board will not degrade or cause harm to your mounted matted artwork, making it a reliable choice for both display and storage.

Passing the rigorous PAT (Photographic Activity Test) ISO IT 18916 (formerly ISO 14523 ANSI IT9.16), this Museum Board guarantees the safe preservation of your precious items. Its lignin content is tested by TAPPI 236 cm-85 and has a Kappa number of less than five, further attesting to its high-quality construction.

The single ply sheets are laminated together using an all-natural starch adhesive, making this Museum Board ideal for matting, mounting, and preserving fine prints, precious documents, and both traditional and digital photographs. For window mats and mat backing, this 4-Ply board is recommended, creating a 1/16" separation between your artwork and its glazing, providing a flat, supportive backing for both display and storage.

In conclusion, the Archival Methods Museum Board 20x24 Polar White 4 Ply PKG15 is a high-quality, durable, and professional choice for preserving and displaying your most cherished pieces.
