Amcrest Blue Iris Professional Version 5

I purchased Amcrest Blue Iris Professional Version 5 to monitor my Lorex cameras from my desktop computer. It works great. It much easier to retrieve specific video than using the Lorex phone app.

3 months of usage, could accomplish more than expected

Great NVR software with plenty of options to fine-tune your security setup. Not for a beginner. . I'd recommend it after an appliance-based NVR leaves you desiring more customizable options. I rarely write reviews (if at all) but this software has so much capability, it surpassed expectations with what it can do. This is a godsend for PTZ setups. May be a bit overkill for stationary cameras but definitely has many perks. Blue Iris can take customization of your NVR deployment to new heights by adding AI, PTZ control and customization usually only seen in high-end DVRs that require same-manufacturer cameras. Allows for granular manual setting of iris, shutter exposure, IR, gain settings for areas difficult-to-record. There are literally hundreds of options to enable you to fully utilize and unlock deep imaging capabilities via ONVIF commands. This "Video processing workflow" can be configured based on temperature, time of day, at-home or "away from home" schedules/profiles. I find the ability to send imaging options (for exposure and gain levels) based on which PTZ preset is active immensely useful. Also, internal motion zone options (based on PTZ preset and time of day) is particularly useful. A single PTZ preset can have 8 motion zones. This is helpful in outdoor settings where trees or foliage move with wind or exposure is better managed manually to prevent video being "blown out" by IR parameters. Think moving PTZ from 20x zoom distant to a closer or reflective object like a license plate. BlueIris commands can be "stacked"- for example, a camera's on-board motion detection may trigger Blue Iris to pause PTZ patrol if Blue Iris can confirm motion detection in a zone. Blue Iris can then "confirm" an alert if AI detects an animal, human, or car in the picture above a set confidence level/percentage. I'd suggest using this on a dedicated machine or virtual machine in a server environment. The software itself is very efficient with a low resource impact (can also run as a windows "service" on boot). Ideally, set your cameras to encode natively in h265 so transcoding doesn't occur on-machine. A cheap off-lease business machine with a $125 Nvidia card can run the bundled YOLO AI image software across my 11 cameras every few seconds. I haven't needed to run AI on every single video frame? My setup is a Dell Optiplex 3070 with 6 core i5-9500, 32-GB RAM (rarely exceeds 25% though), Quadro T1000 half-height Nvidia Card, 256GB SSD Boot on Windows 11 Pro plus 16TB storage. That setup can record and handle streams from 11 source cameras: 2x 4K panoramic, 5 PTZs (including patrols), and provides AI alerting across all channels, including another 4 stationary. 11 total so far. Tested with Amcreat, Hikvision, Jennov, Samsung, Honeywell, and several no-name ONVIF Compliant cameras. The favorite camera to use with BlueIris so far is the Hikvision TandemVu DS-2SE4C425MWG-E/26(F0) this model has 6MP 25x PTZ and 4MP 180-degree night vision Panorama. BlueIris truly unlocks magic bottled up inside any camera, especially PTZ and panoramic! One configuration scenario I set out to accomplish was to use streams from stationary and Panoramic cameras (with night vision) to send PTZ commands to other, older PTZ cameras when specific motion zones are activated. Expect to spend some time reading the well written, corporate-grade documentation when setting everything up. It took a week to dial everything in. The most time was spent at night; 10-15 PTZ presets per camera with different settings for night vs day. Now "neighborhood pets" including wildlife, bears, deer, foxes, raccoons are the star of one home production. ?? Can be integrated with outside data like point of sale data in a retail environment too. Great support from developer, Ken. He seems to be releasing updates frequently and adding features customers are asking for like PTZ tracking and "zoom on object"- essentially breathing new life into older model cameras. New features are getting better. Excellent smartphone app and the web UI truly shines on an iPad. We do continue to use an appliance NVR to record continuous full-definition streams, but allow BlueIris to control the fine-tuning of the cameras. There's probably 3-5 different ways to accomplish a task once you've dedicated some time to learn the software's capabilities.

Great software, but clunky

Very robust, extensive product! And definitely buy from Amcrest to get a much lower price than from Blue Iris! The reason I gave it 4 stars is that the interface is non standard/not intuitive.

Excellent software and highly recommend.

Overall it was very simple to install and setup. I did purchase the Android App as well, which is a great compliment to the server software. For now I have it setup on an older desktop computer that is handling the processes very well, so I look forward to upgrading the system and making it even more responsive. Control is overall pretty easy once you get familiar with the interface. Definitely worth exploring if you aren't sure you want to drop the coin on a dedicated DVR or don't want to lock yourself into a specific company's product.

Great, reliable software that could do with a facelift.

The software could certainly due with a UI modernisation but the functionality (which is the most important) is great! Some of the elements are a bit overcomplicated but I guess that is part of the feature rich environment. CPU utilisation is low and so is RAM consumption. I am able to run this reliably with 3 cameras on a HP Prodesk with 8GB of RAM and an i5-8500T with an SSD. Looking forward to see where the developers are going to take it in the future!

Much more resource hungry than previous version

I had to downgrade to the previous version as the version 5 is much more resource hungry. As a comparison - v4 is going well on Intel i3 Lenove Ideapad s145, at around 30% CPU and about 18W power consumtion. For v5 this setup is not powerful enough, had to use an MSI gaming laptop which draws three times as much power with the same settings.

The Best DVR for Cameras

This is the Best DVR for Cameras available. I only wish it has a Secure Remove view capability that you don't need to open ports on your router. If you open ports on your router you will get a bunch of hackers trying to break into your system that runs Windows.

The cheapest, by far ! / Le moins cher, et de loin !

Amcrest actually offers the best price for a Blue Iris licence, especially when considering the dollar/euro rate. Got my registration number a couple minutes after payment. That's great, thanks ! C'est Amcrest qui propose le tarif le plus avantageux pour une licence Blue Iris, surtout quand on considère le taux de change dollar/euro. J'ai reçu mon numéro de série quelques minutes après le paiement. C'est nickel, merci !

Foscam Blue Iris: a Professional, Full Featured Video Security Suite
• Use motion or audio sensing to trigger recording or record continuously or periodically.
• Overlay the current date/time as well as a logo or other information.
• Optionally record audio.
• Use a timer to determine when the system is armed.
• Images may be captured as either JPEG images, MPEG movies or Windows Media movies.
• Receive alerts via loudspeaker, email, instant message, voice phone call (with automatic redial) or external program/script.
• Run Blue Iris as a Windows service so that only you have control over its operation on a shared PC.
• All passwords are stored encrypted.

Built-in Web Server
The server enables you to bring your Blue Iris with you anywhere! Remotely connect to your Blue Iris from anywhere in the world, from any web enabled device for desktop and mobile viewing and the program will automatically adjust to IP changes. View live cameras, recorded clips and alerts. Supports user authentication with permission based viewing and detailed logs. Also use Blue Iris's powerful digital Zoom and Pan functionality remotely!

Cameras and Clips Are Easy to Organize
The Foscam Blue Iris user interface is intuitive and powerful. The window shows live views on the left and a list of clips on the right. You can choose from equal video window sizes or to have one larger than the others. When you size the main window, the video images size with you. To open a camera view or clip, just click on it. You can use your mouse wheel to digitally zoom in and out. PTZ (Pan Tilt and Zoom) controls are also supported. A status bar at the bottom lets you know what Blue Iris is doing and provides help when you pass the cursor over windows and controls. Your clips can be organized into folders and archived to the web or put into storage.

Clip Viewer with Advanced Controls
You have controls for playback and stepping frame by frame. A position slider allows random access to any point in the video. Digital Zoom and Pan functionality is integrated into the clip viewer and you can control the speed of playback (audio as well as video) and the audio volume. The Blue Iris DVR format allows you to record to and playback video from the same file simultaneously. Starting and ending points can also be easily marked for playback, trimming or video export.

Sophisticated Webcam Functionality
The built-in multithreaded web server supports authentication for securely broadcasting MPEG or "true" webcasts that use leading-edge encoding technologies. All cameras can be viewed at once remotely and PTZ controls are accessible in the broadcast window. Stream and seek through large clips remotely, without downloading the entire file; the customizable home page also allows you to remotely view all cameras and captured clips. An integrated "mini-browser" can test your page before posting to a web server and you can even resize files for mobile and PDA use.

Technological Features
Because Foscam Blue Iris has multithreaded, optimized and rigorously tested code for optimal performance, you can simultaneously use up to 64 video cameras. Use USB webcams, DV camcorders, network IP cams, as well as video servers. Nearly every IP camera brand in existence is supported, as well as generic cards with DirectShow drivers or better, the H.264 cards from BlueCherry.net and Euresys.com. You can video overlay text, timestamps and alpha-blended graphics such as logos or other information.

The highly efficient Blue Iris DVR file format allows time-slip viewing and DirectX integration provides smooth digital scaling. DirectShow integration furthermore provides optimal capture performance. Windows Media technologies integration enables capturing in WMV format and Windows Media webcasting. The program is also capable of geofencing: you can set/disable features, alerts, etc. when devices enter/exit a set perimeter. With Foscam Blue Iris, your surveillance system can do virtually anything that is possible with any advanced system on the market.

Android/iOS App Compatibility (Sold Separately)
The optional Blue Iris mobile app can perform many functions, such as: managing multiple Blue Iris installations; receiving push alerts when a Blue Iris camera is triggered; streaming H.264; controlling PTZ and IR; listening to and talking to any PC-supported camera; navigating cameras by tapping and swiping; reviewing recordings stored on the Blue Iris PC; deleting recordings from the Blue Iris PC; remotely controlling DIO output signals; and more!
