Over the years, the XDirect Professional Active Direct Box has established itself as a quintessential tool for audio professionals seeking a professional-grade interface to seamlessly connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to mixers or other balanced inputs. Engineered with precision, the XDirect boasts a high-impedance single-ended 1/4" and XLR inputs, meticulously buffered and converted by ultra-low noise active electronics into an isolated, balanced, low-impedance signal source.
The XDirect shines with its exceptionally flat and broad frequency response, ensuring that even at high signal levels, the integrity of the audio is preserved, resulting in a pristine and neutral sound across a diverse array of signal sources. This capability is particularly advantageous for long signal runs in environments plagued by high levels of noise, where maintaining audio clarity is paramount.
Innovative design elements of the XDirect include Input Attenuator switches, which accommodate a vast spectrum of signal levels, and an Input Link jack for convenient signal chain tapping. The Ground Lift switch is a critical feature that allows for the complete disconnection of input and output signal grounds, effectively mitigating hum and ground-loop noise when two systems need to be isolated.
Distinguishing the XDirect from other active direct boxes are its advanced features and adaptability. A switchable low pass Filter, a Bessel filter strategically positioned outside the audible range, is dedicated to curtailing radio frequency interference and is equally adept at minimizing digital computer noise artifacts. This makes the XDirect an ideal interface between computer-based audio workstations and monitoring systems.
The inclusion of a Phase Invert switch, a rarity in standard D.I. boxes, provides the flexibility to reverse signal polarity directly at the source, an invaluable asset when blending direct taps with microphone feeds in a mix.
The XDirect's active circuitry is ingeniously powered by an internal 9-volt battery when external power is unavailable, consuming a mere 3.5 mA, which translates to over 250 hours of operation from a fresh battery. Should phantom power be accessible, the XDirect will automatically switch to the external power source. The Battery on/off switch serves as a visual indicator, glowing dimly when powered by the battery, brightly when using phantom power, and turning off when the unit is inactive.
Encased in a compact, black anodized aluminum shell, the XDirect is built to endure, promising years of reliable service across a multitude of applications, including live sound, permanent/fixed installations, DJ setups, and virtually any PA scenario. Its comprehensive feature set, robust construction, and superior specifications render the XDirect an unparalleled choice for interfacing high impedance sources with a low noise balanced system.
