This is actually useful for more than just controlling the spill of light. With its 8 leaf system you can actually shape the light! Highly recommended!

They work well. They are very robust and cut light well. My biggest gripe is that they bounce light because they are not flocked on the inside. For some applications that makes them not effective at all.

Fits like it should and gives me the light manipulation controls on the F10 Fresnel that I need. If you have the F10, you?re gonna need these barn doors

The design of the Aputure doors isn't great since it has the circular cowl that slides against the COB but the doors seem well made.

Well made large set of barn doors that can be used on the fixture or on the F10. So far I have not needed to use this as the F10 gave me the look I needed putting light through and outside window with mullions projecting a sunlit pattern on the background white wall with artwork

This barndoor system is built like a tank, yet it's elegant like a fine automobile.

There are some pros & cons,

Pro:  Built to last in a professional environment.
Pro:  Works exactly like barndoors should work (a lot of barndoors for LEDs are useless).
Pro:  Professional features like expandable flags.
Pro:  Simple and easy rotating operation and removal.

Con:  It's heavy.

This system comes in a nice cut-out foam, compartmentalized shipping box, with a handle that can be used for storage and transport.

The barndoors really block the light with sharp defined edges so that you have more control of your light than with some other barndoors on the market that have very soft edges and hardly block the light at all.

The only con is that these barndoors are heavy, and you are going to have to plan for that. 

If your light isn't up to the task, it may break its Bowens Mount.  

If your light doesn't have a heavy duty mounting system, then these barndoors may very well damage your light and cause a danger to persons and property.  

You will need a heavy duty light stand as well.

So if you have pro gear, and prepare for the additional front weight of these impressive barndoors, you will be very pleased, as I was, with the performance of this light modifier.

Excellent large barn doors. Integrated spill ring. I don?t need the safety cable, but it?s a nice touch.

In general I think this will be useful when you want to block the light from talent more so than shaping it on a subject.

Aputure continues to raise the bar for excellent lighting and accessories. We use this on our 600D with and without the fresnel. Beefy, solid construction, with flexible options for shaping the light exactly the way you want it. It?s an absolute must for your 600-series light.

Such a well-made barndoor set. Inside edges are lined with fuzzy felt. The grid is held in very nicely too.

The best barndoors for the price period. Black non reflective dish, and velvet lined leafs which give almost zero light pollution in your scene. No more reflecting light where you don't want it. Plus the magnetic gel holder to easily add color to your scene. If you use the Apature Space Light with this it gives you more light since the dish is much more shallow than a standard dish.

The Best Barn Door For The Price Period!

Fantastic value for the price and very well thought out Barndoors from the filter holder with magnets to the black felt on the inside of the doors. It’s a solid and well constructed product  , plus the  30 degree grid insert pulls in and out  like butter!

Pretty great product. I wish it came with a bag or something to easily transport it or attach to a 120D bag though.

Awesome. Missing a bag.

Works as described. Used it with & without the fresnel lens. It's nice that the honeycomb pattern grid can be removed. The magnets hold nice and firm and gels you may want to add.

Gets the job done...

Hey, what do you know, they flag off light. They fit on the included black reflector, or the original silver reflector fine. I haven't tried them with the Fresnel lens yet, but I'm sure they fit the same. 

There is a felt coating on the inside of the doors, which is unusual, but they can get away with it since they're for LEDs and it probably absorbs more light than plain black metal. I don't know if it'll wear off over time, but if it does, then they'll still be just as good as any other barn doors that don't have the felt coating.

I like that they have a gel clip built in, although c-47s on the barn doors has never been a problem. I guess the clip will let you get away with smaller 7" circles of gels. It's cool that they included a removable honeycomb grid, too.

My biggest issue is not really with the barn doors themselves, but just that there's not a lot of room for these in the bags of the 300d and the 120d II lights that I have. I kinda made space in the 300d bag moving things around a bit, and nested the reflectors, but it's tight. With the 120d II, I have to either leave the sliver reflector at home for things to fit OK, or leave the black reflector at home and just put the barndoors/honeycomb on top of everything in the bag.

Were you raised in a barn?

These things are wonderful. Powerful, versatile, relatively compact, lightweight. The case they come with is nice too. It's not a Tenba or Pelican, but for a soft case it's very well padded and protective. As others have said all over the internet, it's a bit annoying to have a ballast AND separate power block AND all the cables required to go from head to power controller to ballast to wall. And there's been mention that the ballast's fan makes faint but detectable noise. Don't be deterred. Anyone with ingenuity in the slightest can find a way to deal with this. And the power of these units more than makes for any truly minor compromise a user might have to make.
