I've had this UPS for two years and it's performed well, but I only recently found out that it is not a sine wave output as I thought when I bought it, but a stepped sine wave. My PC, cable modem and wireless router have worked okay during two power outages, but I'm now worried about stress on them from the stepped sine wave. I contacted APC to request the Total Harmonic Distortion for this unit, but after much digging by support, I was finally told, "We do not have THD values for UPSs with step approximated sinewaves." So there's no way to know how much distortion is on the battery output due to the stepped sine wave, and thus no way to know if there's any stress or gradual long term damage that's being done to connected devices, or to judge what devices should not be connected. While I liked the unit initially, with this disturbing lack of information available on THD, I would recommend NOT buying this, or any other APC stepped sine wave product. Stay with pure sine wave UPSs where the manufacturer (APC or any others) can provide the THD.

I hooked up this UPS to the 3 PCs at my desk and hooked the peripherals up to the surge protection. Perfect timing, because two days later there were severe thunderstorms. The electricity went out twice within an hour. I was in the middle of an important report and, thanks to the APC UPS, I didn't lose my work and all 3 PCs stayed on. This unit is a life-saver, both for my work and for my PCs, which don't like electrical outages! And the price is very good.

I have been a loyal customer for many years. I own several APC units in my condo. When my old APC tower battery died after well over 10 years, I knew it was time to upgrade. I found this little gem at Best Buy. When I researched this unit, it mentioned a battery backup with surge protection, but didn't mention how much surge protection was offered. I am pleased to report that this little unit offers 1,103 Joules protection. This is an incredible value and I highly recommend it.

My grandmother is 96 years old and has to breathe concentrated oxygen constantly. The power in her apartment frequently goes out whenever it storms there, so on several occasions over the years she's found herself suddenly suffocating in the dark and forced to try to open a portable oxygen cylinder with arthritic hands. She has never owned a computer and has no need for one, but her oxygen concentrator draws a significant amount of power. The 900 V/A UPS that I use for my computer only lasted 6 minutes under that load, so after some research I settled on this product. This battery backup still only lasts for 15-20 minutes, so it will not provide continuous power through most blackouts, but it gives her enough time for either neighbors, family, or emergency services to check on her and open an oxygen tank or plug the oxygen machine into a generator with an extension cord. The battery alarm will also immediately let her know she needs help if the power goes out in the middle of the night rather than violently coughing herself awake, which is how she used to find out. This device was put to the test less than a month after I put it in her home. She initially panicked when the lights went out, but realized after 30 seconds that she could still breathe. The UPS worked exactly the way I hoped it would. She was able to remain calm and safe until help arrived. I recommend anyone with elderly relatives to consider something like this as an option, but you will need to do some math first and make sure the volts / amps / watts on whatever you're plugging into it will last long enough on battery power to suit your purposes.

I love the hot swappable batteries and the fact that this protects your data cable port as well as the typical power ports. The battery life is great too!

Best bang for your buck for any home or small office environment. 4 Surge and 4 Battery outlet configuration as well as protection for phone and coax. Power management also works well as does the simple LED readout on the front. Definitely recommended.
