Unit runs silently. I'd say the 80mm fan runs around 300-400rpm up until the load reaches about 70%, then the fan increases RPM, but still quieter than any APC UPS i have used in the past. Externally the UPS feels cold to the touch, which means internally it runs very cool. (always a good thing for the batteries). This has improved from the older SUA models, which always ran warmer. Also, when in battery mode the transformer buzzing noise is far less than previous models. Bottom line is, anyone needing a UPS to run quietly in a test environment should get this. (no I don't work for APC)

The APC 1500VA Smart-UPS 2U RackMount with LCD provides power to your important computer components in the event of an electrical outage. This Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is designed for placement in a 2U rack mount and contains a battery which continues to power computers, monitors and other components if the electricity is cut from them.

An LCD status display provides information including remaining battery life, load capacity and event notices. The battery is hot-swappable and easy to replace. An audible alarm alerts you of events like power outage and low battery and the unit delivers battery-powered AC.
