Pretty sure the D3100 would fit depending on the lens you have attached to the camera.

Great all purpose camera bag

A nice, lightweight, moisture proof bag. The rain cover also protects a lot the camera when raining. But it doesn't fits the camera with a long length lens. I use with my Sigma 70-300mm and it is the limit to fit inside the bag.

Excellent Compact Holster Camera Bag

For the money, this is an excellent holster bag. It comes with a water-proof covering, but the covering doesn't fully cover the bag. Everything but the part of the side next to your body is covered. This is probably adequate for most situations. But if you get soaked to the skin, you camera may be in trouble. The bag will accommodate a DSLR with a 5" lens, but not much more. My Nikon 7100 with an 18-300 mm lens fits snugly in the bag. There is room for a few small extras, but not much more. In my case, there's no room for a flash. I like the fact the top of the bag opens away from me. The bag attaches to my belt by its self, but there is a shoulder strap to keep it attached more securely. The bag will give you access to your camera quickly, but not instantly. The bag works well for my needs.

What I was looking for

Purchased for attaching to the hip belt of my backpack. Sturdy, water resistant, easy access, and has a rain cover. Wish it was lighter, but I can deal with the weight for the added protection. Solid.

I gave it 2 stars because it was the perfect size for my Canon 7D with an 18-200 lens attached. But the zippers were so bad I returned it. On both sides at the back corners the zipper was tedious to close. The "collar" pieces inside were useless for this setup. They just could not be adjusted wide enough to fit the lens in with them in place. And the caught on the lens every time I took out the camera. Too bad because I have looked high and low for a holster this size.

Does the job well

Perfect fit for EOS Rebel t3 with 18~200mm lens, with room to spare. Very handy when on field trips with the Family, or Nature walks. Would recommend to a friend using a similar camera setup.

The Ape ACPRO625 (Black) DSLR Holster Camera Bag is a compact, best way to tote around your DSLR with a lens up to 5.0" (12.7 cm). The water-resistant nylon exterior covers a padded Hi-Vis Yellow interior that makes seeing inside the holster easier in marginal light. The bag is designed to unzip away from your body. In this way you get full access to the contents without the concern of others around you peeking inside. The camera is held, face down with lens attached, ready to be easily extracted and used. When the shot is finished, replace the camera, zip up the bag and move on.

The dual zippers have handy pull tabs that make using the bag with gloves much easier. For your accessories, there are front and interior storage pockets for media cards and batteries. The ACPRO625 is carried around by one of three methods. You have an adjustable, removable shoulder strap, top grab handle or rear belt loop that will leave you hands-free to take pictures. For additional protection, there's a built-in rain cover that will add another level of protection if you're caught in inclement weather.
