Although this lens cap was designed for Canon lenses, the Aquatech documentation recommends it for the new Nikon 180-400 mm 1.4x TC lens. I use it on that Nikon lens - it is a little of a tight fit but works fine and easy to install. Lost a star as it was filthy when it arrived in its cardboard box.

Cover is a nice tight fit, should be proof against dust, sand, spray etc. The material it's made of, however, seems to be a bit of a magnet for dust, so it's a hood idea to beat it before putting on your lens.

This one doesn't fit on the 300 Nikon VR prime lens as nicely as the 400 fits on the Nikon 400G prime. But fits in a pocket a lot nicer. Cleans great with warm water.

It should have been a given that when you buy a big telephoto - 300mm f2.8, 400mm f4, etc. - that the accessories are going to be potentially pricey, too. While this lens cap isn't cheap - ($) - it does an excellent job of securely covering the front element (replaces the leather sock that comes with the big lenses) at a fairly reasonable price. Seems well made and would expect it to last for some time as long as I take care of it (and the lens). It provides a nice buffer against bumps and scratches and, better yet, provides the peace of mind that I don't have to worry about a mild brush against the len scratching the front element.

Try to put on Nikon 300mm 2.8 VRII, this cap is slightly larger diameter of front element of the lens and even with force, it will not fit in the front end. will not work for me and Adorama is the best to take it aback with quick refund.

The AquaTech Soft Cap ASCN-5 for Nikon 500mm f/4 Lens is nothing but superb. Stays put in the end lf the lens and a person could also rest the lens without risking scratching the lens glass. Total protection.

Kind of pricey for a piece of rubber, the packaging probably cost as much or more than the product. Does what is says, when you spend so much on a lens any and all possible protection needs to be made.

Probably due to my age now, I don't sling the lens over my shoulder but instead use the Lowepro 600 lens backpack. As such the lens is sitting on the front element. Therefore I wanted something that would not only cushion the lens but keep the front element clean. This combination of backpack and lens cap works great. I'm not as sure about the lens cap if I was slinging the lens over my shoulder because it is just pressed into place without any comforting click as with smaller lenses. So far I've had NO incidents of the cap coming off but again setup takes awhile to get it out of the backpack and set it up on a tripod. I don't keep the lens on the tripod - that is just too big a lever to put on any head in my opinion.

I had no problem with this cap and it replaces the crazy cloth sack that ships with my 300 2.8 VR lens. I found it fit snugly but the added benefit was that it created a pocket of air under the cap which provides extra protection. This is an outstanding item and very well designed. If the other poster took 20 seconds to fit it in the end of the lens he would find it works perfectly.

I buyed this softcap for my Nikon 300mm f.2.8 Ed IF but it does not fit. It seems too small. I asked to acquatech for a replacement but I had no answer.

The Aqua Tech SoftCap is a light and practical alternative to the leather 'snoot' style caps that are delivered with Canon and Nikon's big telephoto lenses today. Constructed from a pliant silicon material, the SoftCap makes a snug fit right at the end of the lens barrel and is very unlikely to come off by accident.
You'll save a bit of weight and mass; and with a big lens to carry, every bit of savings counts--on a long journey, even a straw weighs a ton. This SoftCap fits both the older non-stabilized versions of the current lenses as well as the current models and can also be combined with Aqua Tech's SoftHood collapsible fabric hoods.
