Arista's EDU Ultra VC RC is a premium variable contrast, black and white enlarging paper that caters to the needs of professional photographers and artists. This medium-weight, polyethylene-coated base paper offers a semi-matte finish, providing a unique texture and depth to your prints. The EDU Ultra VC RC paper stands out with its versatility, allowing you to control the contrast from grade 0 through grade 5 using standard Ilford Multigrade or Kodak Polymax/Polycontrast filters. You can also adjust the contrast using an enlarger color head by modifying the amount of magenta or yellow filters. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of photographic styles and techniques.Designed for use with tungsten or tungsten quartz halogen light sources, the Arista EDU Ultra VC RC paper ensures consistent contrast values. The exposure guide is straightforward, depending on the filter system in use. For Ilford Multigrade filters, grades 00 - 3.5 have the same speed rating (ISO P200), while grades 4 through 5 require approximately twice the exposure.This paper is designed to be handled in a photographic darkroom illuminated by standard OC, red, or sodium vapor safelights such as Thomas brand safelights. To prevent safelight fog, ensure that safelights are at least 3 feet from the paper at all times and minimize exposure to safelights.Arista's EDU Ultra VC RC paper can be processed in either trays or roller transport processing machines. It can be developed in any standard black and white photographic paper developer, with a general development time of 60 - 90 seconds at 68 Degree F/20 Degree C. After development, a standard stop bath can be used to halt development and extend fixer life. Fixed prints should be washed in running water for 3-4 minutes. For best preservation, store the paper in a cool, dry place. For prolonged storage, a freezer can be used. Always return unused paper to its original packaging for storage and keep it out of reach of harmful vapors & gases. Box came a bit dinged up but overall good. Paper performed as expected but needed to develop for longer than recommended on spec sheet in D76.

Good paper for getting back into darkroom workflow

Still learning how to use this paper. Claims to be both OC and red light safe. Some fogging with the OC filter. Needs about one additional filter number to get the desired contrast I used to get with other papers. Appears that there has been a recent change in the emulsion across several paper suppliers I have used. Better than some recent experiences I have had with other brands. Still a good value for the price.

A learning curve

I tried this photopaper in the lab and outside in the sun. I am very pleased with my results: clarity, development times  and other important factors exceeded my results. Good paper, I need more!
