Good & Reliable

This laptop is quite snazzy looking in the black color, plus at this price it does everything its supposed to quite well. Good product at a great price

Aside from the annoyance of Windows 8 (which is easy to fix/work around) and the awkwardness of the cursor pad (I am getting used to it) this computer is quality. I would recommend it if you need a laptop at an affordable price.

upgraded to ssd, this machine performs

immediately cloned the OS to a ssd, and this machine screams. two USB 3.0 ports that absolutely fly in file transfers. audio is nice, montior is nice, and the keyboard is perfect. the only sort of negative is the touch pad, so i just use a mouse. however, google this issue, and there are fixes that are implemented rather easily.

Three is not a charm

Like the earlier eee models of ASUS portable units, this notebook -- Asus K55N-DS81 15.6" Notebook Computer -- is a beautiful instrument. I asked for trouble when I ordered it with Windows 8, thinking that it would be easy (like with the two earlier eee's to remove the windo 8. I couldn't figure it out.

Best bang-for-your-buck notebook

Did a lot of research before purchasing this notebook. Mine went kaput so I needed one fairly quickly. This was the cheapest notebook I could find that didn't have a Celeron or similarly mediocre processor. I'm a Photographer but didn't need my laptop to be top-of-the-line because I have a desktop in which I use to edit with Lightroom and PS. Super fast, much lighter than my previous laptop and very nice display. The only thing wrong with the laptop is the awkward mousepad. As other reviewers have stated, it takes a bit to get used to. I'd rather a normal mousepad but I'm getting used to it. Had it been traditional, this Asus notebook would've gotten five stars. Overall, great notebook and more power, RAM and HDD space than 90% of people will need or use.
