Review Summary

I have been using it for a long time (give it or take it, 8 year), I mounted it inside of my DW bass drum, so far every place I performed the sound engineers have been very happy with the results, I really like having the condenser and dynamic mics placed without phase cancelation issues and the many different possibilities of combining separate EQs, you can dial each individual mic level to get a great result without having to change the EQ. I use my own digital system every time possible and having my preferred presets have helped me ative a consistent results, with the identity I desire. I really like this mic.

The Audio-Technica AE-2500 Dual Element Cardioid Kick Drum Microphone is a cardioid kick drum microphone featuring a unique, revolutionary design. The AE-2500 features both, a condenser and dynamic element within the capsule. The dynamic element accurately reproduces signals rich in transient response, so the result is accurate, rich reproduction of sharp attacks without noise and distortion. The condenser element is in place to deliver the warm tonal, resonant response of the drum's shell. Together both elements deliver an accurate, warm kick drum signal without noise, coloration and distortion.
The AE-2500 also provides a low-frequency roll-off switch. Frequencies below 80Hz can be eliminated to reduce noise and improve intelligibility. The cardioid polar pattern is effective in minimizing noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone. A 10dB Pad switch increases head room allowing louder, transient rich signals to be reproduced without distortion. The output connection is a 5-pin XLR male and a 16.5-foot (5m), 5-pin XLR female to dual XLR 3-pin male cable is provided. The dual cable design allows users to obtain individual control over each element using two channels on a separate audio mixer or dual preamplifiers.
