I bought these headphones on Groupon a few years ago, and my husband bought the Bose noise cancelling in-ear. His definitely cancelled sound better, but were significantly more expensive. These headphones cancelled noise pretty well, even on an airplane, though piercing noises (babies crying, for example) definitely came through stronger on mine than his. Unfortunately, the noise cancelling feature on mine stopped working about 6 months ago, and recently they fully stopped working. Overall a good pair of headphones for the price and a couple years of use, but not a forever purchase. It was nice not to remember to charge them, but I did have to keep an extra battery with me in case they died on the airplane (which I learned the hard way)

With the right Rubber Ear things these are really good in ear phones and they do noise Canceling really well.

My pair lasted for over two years, and it seems like the damage that killed them was clearly my fault and pretty severe; they survived quite a bit of abuse and continued to work fine. I found the sound balanced and rich, not harsh at all, and great bass - but only if you use well-fitting Comply foam pads. If the seal is good, passive noise is greatly reduced, the noise canceling for things like air conditioner noise is excellent, and the bass is excellent. Without well-fitting pads, they sound very mediocre. The clip is poor. Mine broke promptly, but I just tied a loop knot and hung it from a button on my shirt. This worked better than a clip. The fairly large battery container is worth it to me to be able to have a battery that lasts a week, and I can carry a spare if I need to. Also, there's no sealed battery that will slowly lose capacity - something I will never buy. I did find the noise canceling, and perhaps the sound, somewhat better on the model without a button and microphone, but the microphone works well, and the convenience is almost a requirement while driving, etc. Not only have I recommended these to friends and family, but I'm replacing a pair that I broke. The sound, noise reduction, and convenience are excellent for the price. I doubt a more expensive pair from anyone is going to be much stronger, and I can afford to replace these. If I want better sound, I just use my open back headphones. But these, I often sleep with and find them comfortable and good enough for satisfying and comfortable general, extended use.

I have been using these earbuds three years. They have been sturdy and durable. I use the rubber seals and find them more comfortable than expected. Battery life has been stellar. Noise cancellation works very well on NYC subway. On airplanes they help a lot though not as effectively as other higher-priced models. Definitely the right mix of value per dollar for me. Highly recommended.

Very surprised at how well they compare to more expensive ANC headphones. Has similar sound quality and noise reduction to Pioneer's Rays but for half the price. Has more treble response/brighter sound than Bose QC20's. Worked best with foam COMPLY as that sealed out noise well allowing a noticeable reduction in ambient noise. The rubber ear pieces didn't seal well at all for me. A single battery has lasted nearly 40 hours so far. Lasts much longer than a rechargeable and swapping in a fresh battery takes a mere 10 seconds to get back to 100% plus the ANC works even when not plugged into your phone, unlike the Pioneer's that gets its power from your phone. A simple on off switch with a red LED indicator on the battery pack is all it takes to enable ANC. Pack is half the size of the Bose QC20's ($250) and weighs less. It also has an integrated clip to remove its weight from the cord and earphones. Noise cancellation is on par with the $150 Pioneer Rays but not as strong as the Bose QC 20's, but for 1/3 the price, the QuietPoint 33's are a great value. The cord, plastics, fit, and finish are better than expected, a little under Pioneer's but not as premium as Bose's but that's to be expected at this price point. Earbuds are compact and fit flush with my ears, sticking out less a little less than the Pioneer or Bose, though the hard plastic part of the earphone may cause some discomfort if your ears are small and worn for very long periods of time, depending on your ears (your ears may vary of course). Battery case and battery door are well made and sturdy. I've folded up the headphones and stored in my jean pocket on numerous occasions with no worry of fraying the cord or damaging the battery housing or earbuds. It comes with a small carrying bag that I've used to store and transport on a few occasions. Headphone connector is also sturdy and appears it will hold up to flexing and the occasional accidental pull. In all, a great value!

Poor noise cancelling. Failed to isolate most of the noise in the environment made it no difference with normal non-noise cancelling earphones plus audio quality is worse than most of the earphones available out there. Regret purchasing this product.

ATH-ANC33iS QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling In-Ear Headphones reduce distracting background noise by up to 90% while offering the superior sound that makes Audio-Technica a world-leading pro audio company. Engineered to create a comfortable listening environment in areas with high ambient noise, these in-ear headphones feature a miniature microphone in each earpiece that picks up ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.). Electronics in the QuietPoint control module create a noise-cancelling wave that is 180deg. out of phase with the ambient noise. This wave acts like a noise eraser: it cancels out the annoying sounds that surround you without diminishing the audio you want to hear. The result...a peaceful enclave to enjoy the music or movies of your choice.
The ATH-ANC33iS in-ear headphones also feature an inline microphone and controller for answering calls and controlling music. The mic and controller support smartphones, iPhones, iPads, many iPods & other compatible devices. The microphone has an omnidirectional pickup pattern and it is designed for crisp intelligibility, so your voice will be clearly transmitted without having to speak directly into the mic.
