Best investment I’ve done for my production. There’s a limitless amount of opportunities you can do with this monitor. Color grade my live feed, able to record while monitoring? Worth everything I spent.

Good monitor/recorder except for tiny issue. There is a real issue with the firmware on these monitors. It is a relatively well known problem but sometimes the monitor just won't boot up and you have to have an SSD with the firmware loaded on it with you at all times.

Surpassed my expectations. The build quality and accessories are fantastic, I definitely think I made the right call getting the accessory kit alongside it. The case alone is a necessary addition. The footage quality recorded externally is as good as advertised, and the benefits of added storage works wonders for our projects. Coming from internal storage its just dramatically better. I havent had the chance to explore all the monitor settings, but after just a couple days of use and some fiddling its already integrated nicely into our workflow. I had concerns about the 'fan noise' that some reviews report, but its so subtle. If you are recording through an external mic it is no issue at all. It is a bit large to mount directly on the camera comfortably, but that wasnt part of our plans. I would highly recommend

Definitely worth every penny! This is not only a very capable monitor but the internal recording puts this thing on a whole new level! I will probably buy another one!

Now I know this is intended for use with digital cameras with HDMI out however the Atomos Ninja Inferno solved my video game capture woes. The issue I faced using numerous consumer video capture devices, standalone or computer aided, was the issue of variable frame rates. For example, the Elgato HD60 captures at 60fps (59.97fps) however it's not constant. In truth it is a variable frame rate. Slight drops in frame rate would cause video/audio desyncing issues with professional non-linear editors like Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. The ability to use variable frame rates without desyncing is now a feature the latest Adobe Premiere CC however that is not accessible to myself or others that work with the video files I capture. I would have to use program like Handbrake to re-encode the video to one with a constant frame rate. This slows down the turnaround time and takes up even more additional hard drive space. With the Atomos Ninja Inferno all those headaches are a thing of the past. The ability to record with Apple ProRes is a huge selling point as it's a professional video codec and plays effortlessly and flawlessly in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on my PC. And for retro games, what pushes the Atomos Ninja Inferno over the top is that the fact that it’s compatible with the “Micomsoft XRGB-mini Framemeister” (as long as you turn the SYNC_SET to OFF). I can hook up my Sega Saturn and Sega Dremcast with a SCART/RGB cable to the Framemeister and to the Ninja Inferno. Using the optional XRL cable, I can record my commentary on a completely separate track apart from the game audio. This helps out immensely how I edit both tracks and speeds up the turnaround time. Paired with a 2TB SSD, I can capture over 9 hours of video using the Apple ProRes HQ codec and it looks gorgeous. I even capture Japanese anime laserdiscs using the Framemeister paired with the Ninja Inferno. I understand this might be out of some people’s price point but I would HIGHLY recommend not wasting your money and your time with low end solutions that would just be headaches to deal with.

The monitor is the perfect size for me and I love the quality I get out of it! Having the ability to preview logs and having a bigger screen for focus peaking is incredibly helpful as well. I recommend this to anyone who does any kind of professional videography work or indie filmmakers on a budget!

Impressive screen and functions! Still learning and playing with it. But it's making my life so much easier. Get the accessory kits if you don't previously own a Ninja. Everything is inside except the SSD. And recommend get the G Technology SSD, I only found this one compatible. The ScanDisc Plus one gave me error as "Invalid Media."

Saved hundreds with this bundle, which costs about $300 more on all other sites I shopped. I love the Ninja, the quality of the screen and of the recording is top notch, nothing but great things to say about it. I have worked with Atomos Shogun recorders before, and after working with the Ninja, I can't justify the extra cost of the Shogun. This Ninja is an amazing deal!

The quality and brightness of the monitor are exceptional. The only thing I don’t t like is the internal fan is very loud so you would not want to put it near any microphone and it takes a bit to view the playback when is in recording mode (like 4seconds of dark screen) but apart from that it’s an amazing product with the option to see different Luts as you record live or even apply it while you see the playback.

I believe that there's nothing more to say about any Atomos product: it's great and you can buy with closed eyes, with their fair price. But there's something that customers never intend to use: the support team. My Ninja Inferno needed maintenance before what I believed was an bad function, about 20 days before arrived. Both Atomos and Adorama offered fast replacement, with no question. But, due Brazilian taxes, I needed an special request: they should send the same unit that I bought before or I will be taxed again (100% plus overseas transport.....=(. When I asked to Support Team at Atomos that possibility, they help me at pronto way! Last week I received my Ninja back at home, and this review is just about be thankful with Atomos and Adorama's Team Suport. I can't remember another so helpful support. Cheers, mates!

The pairing of the GH5 and the Ninja Inferno are perfect together. If you can get past the $ HDMI, and the costly SSD drives, this thing is magical. It’s lighter than you’d expect, even with the clunky Sony batteries attached. Tons of extra tools that are shown on the super bright 7” screen that would otherwise be shown on the tiny 3” GH5 display. All around this thing is a beast and I couldn’t be happier.

I bought the Inferno and the Accessory Kit after borrowing a Ninja Flame from a friend. It is a beautiful machine. I work mostly by myself and it is a joy to have scopes and HDR tools at my fingertips. It is like having a DP at my beck and call. And the resolution of the screen is so welcome. It really helps me stop worrying about focus and lets me concentrate on the work at hand. Adorama was quick to ship after I ordered and well, the whole deal was good. I can highly recommend the product and the merchant.

the Ninja Inferno recording monitor is incredibly impressive. This goes well beyond its super bright, super sharp, 7" 4K display. The hot swappable batteries, and Caddy style memory port make this unit very user friendly. But it doesn't end there. The Ninja Inferno also has all the video monitoring tools you need, and they are all built into the the touch screen. In addition to the typical playback controls and screen info, you have Luma-Waveform, RGB Waveform, Vectorscope tools you can toggle on/off or even adjust their transparency. You also can easily turn on essential Monitor assisting tools like Focus Peaking, Zebra, False Colours. No more excuse for incorrect focus or exposures. I can go on, but I think you may already understand the capabilities of this most affordable tool.

Besides it eating batteries like PEZ, this thing is perfect! Best investment to pair with my GH5 or any other camera with HDMI 10 bit out.

I bought this and 6 sony np-f550 batteries to run it. I have it strapped on with a magic articulating arm. It is wayyyy too heavy. Also, why did they make it to where theres like an inch of plastic around the screen? this adds so much bulk for no reason at all. Accessories are stupidly overpriced. I honestly cannot see the difference between the a7sii h264 and the pro res version from the atamos. i record in the high res version nonetheless and it takes 1 tb ssd for 4 hours video footage. If I could return it i would absolutely return it but I kept it longer than the 30 days. I suggest only using this if you want to do movies and your camera is always on a tripod and weight is not an issue and you can plug in to AC. Honestly theres not really any difference between h264 and the atamos so who cares right??? i would return if i could......

I purchased this recorder for use with the LUMIX GH5 and could not be happier with it! Some of the highlights are the ability to record 10bit (Thousands of color for smooth gradation of tones) 4:2:2 in ProRes format in 4K at 60fps. While currently this is only at 150megs per second, the next firmware update will bring this up to 400meg per second. There are no SD cards made that write at this speed. So in order to be able to use all that data at a smooth rate you need to be able to have something that writes that fast. The Atomos lets you use standard SSD drives that you can get anywhere just make sure they are the quick ones with write speed of 550meg per second. You will notice a huge difference as soon as Panasonic comes out with this update. Second thing I loved about this is it's able to HDR showing you 10 full stops of dynamic range. The GH5 is able to record in 12 stops with VlogL when you keep your ISO at the native 400. This gives you the most cinematic look. The screen is bright enough to use in full daylight with amazing quality! Third, it makes your autofocus faster on the GH5! When not recording internally the speed of the autofocus increases! Forth, it has fantastic features like focus assist, false color for checking for skin tones and every major crop imaginable! Different recording modes, able to use LUTS if you choose to, internal support of Panasonic cameras and much more! Fifth fantastic customer service! I called their costumer support and got a real live person who shoots video and was not only able to easily answer every question I had but has told me things about it that I didn't even know it could do! Atomos has the best customer service of any company I have dealt with in years! Sixth you have the ability to record on SSD drives and you can record for much longer on 1 gig drives and the drives are fast to bring full 4K data in to your Mac or PC! I am beyond happy with this Monitor/Recorder! By far the best accessory I have bought for the GH5!

Pros: Works well with the Sony A7sii, the 10-bit ProRes 422 color allows for decent quality Chroma keying. The screen is nice and bright in direct sunlight, and has excellent focus peaking. Cons: HDMI connector seems flimsy, and sometimes loses connection for a few seconds during run-and-gun recording, which leaves you with a few 4-5 second clips scattered on your SSD. Significant weight increase for handheld users, batteries drain fast when recording.

We found that in our tests from the GH5, the 8bit 60 vs the 10bit 60 was not significantly different to warrant this purchase. We sent it back with the fantastic Adorama return policy and got a full refund. It worked well, and may be perfect for another application. For us it was great to give it a try, but we returned it.

Atomos, makers of professional on-camera and production video monitors and accessories for Canon DSLRs and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras, today introduced the Ninja Inferno, a high-resolution 7-inch HDR calibrated monitor designed as a key part of professional workflow with the Panasonic Lumix GH5 and other 4Kp60 10-bit cameras.
The Atomos Ninja Inferno bypasses the internal recording limitations and takes full advantage of the sensor by recording to the camera’s maximum color accuracy, color resolution, and dynamic range. It delivers 10 stops of dynamic range to match the 10-bit camera LOG footage, revealing detail in highlights and shadows that are usually clipped in final footage. It records and plays out Apple ProRes DNxHR in 4K resolution, 10-bit 4:2:2 color accuracy, and at frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60p. Read More
