I love this monitor but I can't say it's the most reliable. Never dropped, not a scratch, and lightly used but the monitor died mid-shoot. The unit powers on, the fan comes on and the screen backlight comes on but nothing is on the screen. Atomos estimates the repair cost to be over 50% of the purchase price. No thanks.

This is my first Atomos purchase and I am beyond happy with my purchase. The screen size is definitely larger on typical mirror less setups, but the screen real estate is AMAZING. I don?t second guess my shots and the assist tools are awesome.

Great monitor for the price. There are some things I have noticed, color is great, io is great. The one downside is that it is ever so slightly soft in the image, on average you wouldn't even notice it but I am a 1st ac and looking for that.

If you're looking for an easy to see/read monitor and recording isn't a priority for you, this is it! Super bright (as expected), easy to read and navigate, and ENORMOUS. I wanted the 7" so I knew what I was in for but the only thing I would suggest is to consider mounting options if you plan to use with a gimbal. It's taken a little "engineering" to figure out how to place this where I want on my Zhiyun Crane 3 LAB. It would be way easier to mount a 5" so something to consider but like I said, I knew there would be compromise getting a 7" and I can't say I regret it.

Purchased the Atomos Shinobi 5" to replace our Ninja V because we don't do any external recording and the Shinobi is significantly lighter than the Ninja. We were disappointing to find out that the Shinobi doesn't have the 9 Grid Overlay or Frame Guides for Social Media. We mainly shoot content for Social Media almost exclusively Reels and having the 9 Grid Overlay is crucial for keeping our subjects in frame. For this reason we have remounted our Ninja 5 and our Shinobi is sitting in the box. We have reached out to Atomos to have these features added to the Shinobi but until then we will continue to use our Ninja V.

This is the real deal. Battery lasted for about 4 hours. It has a the bells and whistles. Be cautious as footage it looks better on this smaller monitor than it does on my 27? iMac. I like that it?s lighter than the 7 inch and only needs one battery as opposed to two. However I still find it to be kind of small for my aging eyes. I highly recommend

It is the best camera monitor I have, super lightweight, with an intuitive, portable menu. I can use it outdoors perfectly thanks to its high brightness and anti-glare screen. It would be good if it includes recording light and the possibility of seeing the camera info without reducing the image size. I absolutely recommend it.

Take your video to the next level!
By Neil O.
I got this to use with a camera that didn’t come with fancy picture quality tools, like focus peaking and zebras. The picture quality is great, the tools are effective and helpful, and it’s unbelievably light. The battery being in middle helps with balance, and the utility of having an off-camera monitor is great.

Our unique HDR monitoring features simplify the post-production workflows at the most crucial time - while shooting. And with Adaptive Cooling, you can prioritize reduced fan noise or the peak brightness of the display.
Customize Your Look with Built-in 3D LUT Box
Beyond Log to HDR conversions, the Shinobi 7 allows you to use your custom 3D LUTs and feed them downstream to other devices or a live feed. Load up to eight custom LUTs via the SD Card Slot and instantly select between them, maintaining creative intent at all times. When used with the selfie mode, the large display acts as a perfect confidence monitor, allowing you to 'bake-in' a LUT to your camera input, achieving your desired look at capture for that perfect piece to camera.

Introducing the Shinobi 7, a masterclass in on-set monitoring, utilizing the best of AtomOS 10. This innovative device is brimming with an extensive suite of scopes and simple one-touch operations, offering a plethora of monitoring tools for focus, framing, and exposure. Unrivaled Image Analysis
The 'Analysis' mode of Shinobi is nothing short of revolutionary. It's critical to see what you're capturing in real-time, and with Shinobi's Analysis feature, you can view your shot, a waveform, histogram, and vectorscope simultaneously, ensuring total control over your image. And the flexibility doesn't stop there; you can switch between different waveform, histogram, and vectorscope options on the fly with just a single touch.
Never Run Out of Power
Say goodbye to power interruptions during critical moments. With dual battery slots, you can effortlessly hot-swap batteries during your shoot and ensure you're always powered up. The Shinobi 7 is ingeniously designed to optimize battery usage while monitoring, as the dual slots combine to keep you running all day. Plus, the dedicated locking DC jack input allows you to connect to mains power on-set, and with the optional DC to DTAP cable, you can use V-lock batteries to power the Shinobi 7 in the field.
Seamless Cross Conversion
The Shinobi 7 is an integral part of any video workflow, enabling cross conversion between 4K HDMI and 3G-SDI signals. Output low-latency video signals and bring HDMI cameras into SDI workflows or vice versa without the need for additional converters. With support for up to 4Kp60 via the HDMI inputs, the Shinobi 7 cements itself as an indispensable tool for any professional videographer.
Precision Calibration for Accurate Monitoring
Shinobi 7 comes factory calibrated for Rec.709, ensuring precise color right out of the box. But we understand that ongoing calibration is essential for maintaining accurate and reliable monitoring results over time. That's why the Shinobi 7 supports user-calibration via the free Atomos Calibration software. With the optional USB-A or USB-C to Serial cable and X-Rite's i1DisplayPro/Plus, the calibration process is a breeze. The software automates the calibration of the screen, guaranteeing that you get the most accurate and reliable monitoring results throughout the life of the device.
