I had a similar light from Orion. This light is a big improvement. The dimming knob works well. The whole light has sturdier feel. Happy with my purchase.Hard to beat for the money.

The light pattern is not quite perfect, but the variable brightness control and light weight makes this a good map reading light.

Good for astromony. Can be adjusted through a range of brightness settings. Most red flashlights are just too bright for night-adapted eyes, but not this one. Also, the red LEDs are recessed a bit from the business end of the flashlight, so they won't be seen unless someone is in front of the unit. I usually hold the flashlight with my teeth when viewing charts, and the squared-off shape of the unit isn't too comfortable. Plus, it's a little heavy used that way, and this is the Mini! If they only made a smaller, lighter, round body, rubber-coated, single red LED dimmable flashlight, I would purchase it.

Have had the prior slightly longer version for over 10 years. Very reliable. Bought this and a waterproof version for various scope cases and camera bags. This is nice and compact; fits anywhere. This one lives in my Think Tank Speed Changer bag. Red and White option are very helpful for different applications.
